King Abdulaziz Camel Festival: A cultural legacy and an economic dimension

The King Abdulaziz Camel Festival is the world's largest camel-related event, held annually in the Al-Sayahid area, northeast of Riyadh. Overseen by the Camel Club, the festival aims to preserve and promote camel heritage within Saudi, Arab, and Islamic culture, and to provide a distinguished cultural, tourist, sporting, entertainment, and economic destination, aligning with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals for preserving national heritage.

The “Sha’al” category, characterized by its yellowish-orange coat, is gaining immense popularity among camel owners and enthusiasts of traditional heritage. The “King’s Sword” competition is considered a highly competitive event, demanding the ownership of rare camels with exceptional aesthetic qualities. The fierce competition in this edition reflects the development of the camel sector in the Kingdom, where the festival has become a major economic driver, stimulating the markets for camels, feed, and veterinary supplies, in addition to attracting tourists and enthusiasts from the Gulf region and around the world.

The festival continues to present its exciting shows, as the audience awaits today, Thursday, the announcement of the results of the “Unified Flag” race for the Sha’al category, which is considered the peak of competition in this color category, amid expectations of a large audience and high competitiveness among the top owners.
