Development of the Holy Sites: 6000 misting columns to serve the pilgrims

In a pioneering step reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing the Holy Sites, Kadana Development and Investment Company, the master developer of the Holy Sites and the executive arm of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, announced the launch and operation of the “Mist” and “Watering” systems. This strategic step is part of a series of qualitative and operational initiatives undertaken in active partnership with the non-profit sector, aimed at enhancing the comfort of pilgrims and improving the quality of their spiritual experience during Hajj, reflecting the wise leadership’s commitment to providing the best services for pilgrims.
The ongoing historical care for the guests of God
Throughout history, serving the pilgrims of the Holy Mosque in Mecca has been a top priority for the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since the unification of the country, expansion and modernization projects have been undertaken to encompass all aspects of the pilgrim's journey. These efforts have not been limited to the expansion of the Two Holy Mosques alone, but have extended to the entire infrastructure. Projects to improve the climate and provide clean water are a natural extension of this long-standing legacy, with methods evolving from traditional ways of providing water and shade for walkways to the use of the latest modern engineering technologies that ensure the sustainability of resources and the delivery of highly efficient services befitting the status of the greatest Islamic event.
The misting and irrigation system: figures and statistics reflecting the achievement
The state-of-the-art misting system comprises five massive operational stations that supply over 6,000 carefully distributed misting columns throughout the area. These stations boast an impressive production capacity of up to 1,500 cubic meters per hour. This advanced system aims to effectively moderate the climate and reduce high temperatures, providing a healthy and comfortable environment that enables pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease, comfort, and complete peace of mind.
In a related context, the "Watering" system included equipping five other main stations connected to more than 25,000 chilled drinking water taps. These taps were strategically distributed throughout vital locations to ensure that the needs of pilgrims are met around the clock. This precise distribution guarantees access to clean, chilled drinking water for everyone, directly contributing to increased efficiency of support services and providing comprehensive comfort that protects pilgrims from the risks of heat stress.
Strategic dimensions of developing holy sites and their global impact
projects extends the Holy Sites development beyond the local level, impacting regional and international dimensions. The Kingdom's success in managing millions of pilgrims from all corners of the earth within a limited geographical area and timeframe serves as a global model for crowd management and the planning of smart and temporary cities. Providing a safe and comfortable environment for millions of Muslims enhances the Kingdom's positive international image and underscores its exceptional ability to harness modern technology for the benefit of humanity.
Saudi Vision 2030 and the sustainability of services
These tremendous efforts are an integral part of the operational initiatives adopted by Kadana Company to upgrade infrastructure according to the highest standards of quality and environmental sustainability. These projects embody the company's deep commitment to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims. By offering innovative technological and engineering solutions, the Kingdom ensures the safety and health of pilgrims throughout their Hajj journey, making the pilgrimage a safe and accessible spiritual experience, and demonstrating to the world that innovation and development are ongoing in service of Islam and Muslims.
