Al-Khafji Municipality announces its readiness for the rainy season with a comprehensive emergency plan
The Khfji Governorate Municipality announced the completion of all its technical and human preparations to receive the rainy season this year, as part of a comprehensive proactive plan aimed at ensuring the smooth flow of traffic, protecting public and private property, and dealing immediately with any emergency situations that may result from the expected weather fluctuations.
A comprehensive emergency plan and field readiness
The mayor of Al-Khafji Governorate, Engineer Mohammed Al-Yami, explained that the municipality has developed a comprehensive action plan that utilizes all available resources. A field emergency team of 120 qualified and trained personnel has been assembled to handle crises, supported by 46 vehicles and various pieces of equipment specifically designed for pumping water and addressing water accumulations. Al-Yami emphasized that the field teams will operate around the clock upon receiving reports to ensure a rapid response.
The preparations included a thorough cleaning of rainwater drainage channels, removal of dirt and debris that could impede the flow of water, as well as preventive maintenance of pumps at drainage stations to ensure their operational efficiency during peak times.
The context of infrastructure development and the importance of proactive maintenance
These intensive efforts come as part of the ongoing work by the Eastern Province Municipality and its affiliated municipalities to enhance infrastructure efficiency, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program. These preparations are particularly important in coastal cities like Khafji, where the geographical and climatic conditions necessitate regular and intensive maintenance of drainage networks to ensure their capacity to handle rainfall and prevent its negative impact on asphalt surfaces.
In this context, the municipality not only provided suction equipment but also began repairing potholes and cracks and paving streets and neighborhoods that had been damaged in previous seasons. This step is essential to reduce water accumulation in low-lying areas, which helps preserve the lifespan of roads and enhances traffic safety standards for the governorate's residents and visitors.
A call for community cooperation
Engineer Al-Yami emphasized that the safety of citizens and residents is the municipality's top priority, noting that the success of emergency plans depends heavily on community cooperation. He urged everyone to immediately report any water accumulations or issues related to municipal services through the unified emergency and reporting center (940), so that they can be addressed and resolved by specialized teams. He prayed that the rains would be a blessing and bring benefit to the land and its people.
