King Abdulaziz University launches 23 million articles to support researchers

King Abdulaziz University launched the “Knowledge Transformation with Artificial Intelligence in Libraries” forum at the King Faisal Conference Center, in a pioneering step aimed at employing modern technologies in developing knowledge systems. The university crowned this event by launching a huge database containing more than 23 million scientific articles to support researchers and academics, in line with the comprehensive digital transformation plans witnessed by educational institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This forum is a continuation of the historical and pioneering role that King Abdulaziz University since its founding as a beacon of science and knowledge in the region. The university has consistently adopted the latest technologies and digital solutions to facilitate access to information resources. In light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the university seeks to integrate artificial intelligence tools into the library and information sector, thereby accelerating the pace of scientific research and innovation, and providing a comprehensive educational environment that meets the aspirations of new generations of researchers and innovators at both the local and regional levels.
A massive database opens new horizons for knowledge
The ceremony witnessed the launch of the global text database "Science Direct," which provides researchers and professionals with direct and immediate access to more than 23 million scientific articles and book chapters. The university's General Administration of Library Affairs explained that this database hosts a vast amount of scientific content, including more than 3,000 prestigious scientific journals and over 48,000 books supporting academic and professional research. This massive expansion of knowledge represents a qualitative leap, placing researchers in the Kingdom in direct contact with the latest global scientific developments, thus enhancing the quality of Saudi research output and raising the international ranking of local universities.
Dialogue sessions and workshops to keep pace with the digital age
The forum featured an intensive scientific program comprising six panel discussions with 20 speakers from among leading experts and academics, in addition to seven interactive online activities and specialized practical workshops. Participants discussed vital topics focusing on how to utilize artificial intelligence to develop the library sector, promote digital governance, and preserve cultural heritage in line with the demands of the digital age. Experts also reviewed global best practices for addressing the challenges of AI literacy, aiming to improve library science practices and enhance the efficiency of information institutions to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Honoring scientific excellence and innovative researchers
In recognition of outstanding scientific contributions, the university announced the winners of the prestigious Elsevier Award for the top three published research papers during the forum. Professor Abdullah Baabdulah received the Impact Award for Scientific Research, Dr. Abrar Al-Sufyani was awarded the Best Emerging Researcher Award, and Professor Zuhair Natto received the Academic Excellence Award. This recognition reflects the university's commitment to supporting national talent and fostering continuous innovation, contributing to building a vibrant society and a sustainable knowledge-based economy that strengthens the Kingdom's position as a regional and international hub for research and development.
