Registration has closed for the Judicial Intelligence Hackathon for developing smart justice

Registration for the “Judicial Intelligence” hackathon, organized by the Board of Grievances in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will close next Tuesday, January 20, 2026. This event is the first of its kind globally in the field of employing artificial intelligence technologies to serve the judicial sector. It aims to attract creative minds and innovative ideas to leverage the technological revolution to develop and improve judicial processes and enhance the user experience across all categories.

The context of digital transformation and smart justice

This hackathon is not an isolated event, but rather a link in a long chain of digital transformation achievements witnessed by the Kingdom as part of the goals of Vision 2030. The judiciary, specifically the Board of Grievances, has made significant strides in transitioning from traditional paper-based transactions to fully electronic litigation via advanced digital platforms. Organizing this hackathon represents the move from the stage of "automation" and digitization to the stage of "intelligence," where artificial intelligence algorithms are expected to play a pivotal role in analyzing big data, expediting litigation procedures, and supporting more accurate judicial decision-making.

Record turnout and innovation pathways

The registration period, which began on December 28th, witnessed an overwhelming response that exceeded expectations from the very first week, reflecting the keen interest of the technical and legal communities in shaping the future of justice. The supervising team stipulated that submissions be made through teams of three to five members, comprising a mix of academics, technical specialists, and university students, to ensure a diversity of expertise and a coherent set of solutions.

Participants compete in two main tracks:

  • The first track: It deals with developing internal judicial work, and aims to create solutions that accelerate the pace of services, reduce error or delay rates, and raise the efficiency of judicial departments.
  • The second track focuses on improving the experience of the external beneficiary, with special attention to developing and facilitating the use of digital platforms for the elderly and people with special needs, to ensure easy access for everyone to the right to litigation.

Expected impact and stages of arbitration

The outcomes of this hackathon are expected to contribute to a qualitative leap in judicial services, not only locally, but also as a model to be emulated regionally and internationally in how to integrate technology with law. The resulting ideas may offer solutions to chronic problems such as lengthy litigation processes or the complexity of procedures for non-experts.

The Board of Grievances has set January 23, 2026, as the date for announcing the teams that have qualified for the final stage, with project presentations and discussions to be held remotely on January 28. This adoption of a modern approach to attracting ideas stems from the Board of Grievances' leadership's belief that collaborative innovation is the optimal path to achieving excellence and improving litigation procedures in administrative courts, thus ensuring swift justice with the highest standards of quality.
