Jeddah Municipality's plan for Ramadan 1447 AH: Comprehensive monitoring and cleaning

The Jeddah Governorate Municipality announced the completion of its field and administrative readiness to receive the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr for the year 1447 AH, through the adoption of an integrated seasonal plan aimed at ensuring food safety, increasing compliance with municipal requirements, and improving the urban landscape throughout the governorate.

Jeddah: The gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and a destination for visitors

The Jeddah Municipality's preparations for this year are of particular strategic importance, given the city's geographical and religious significance as the main gateway to the Two Holy Mosques and the primary point of entry for pilgrims. With millions of Umrah pilgrims and visitors expected during Ramadan 1447 AH, this plan aligns with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to facilitate the pilgrims' journey and provide high-quality municipal services, reflecting the Kingdom's modern image.

The municipality is working to harness all its human and mechanical capabilities to cope with the expected high population density, as the Ramadan season in Jeddah is an exceptional event in which the spiritual character is mixed with the active commercial and tourist movement, especially in the historical area and the waterfront.

Strict control over food and markets

In detailing the operational plan, the Secretariat explained that inspection teams will begin conducting intensive round-the-clock inspection tours, with a particular focus on activities closely related to Ramadan consumption. These campaigns include:

  • Food establishments: Tightening control over restaurants, kitchens, date and sweets shops, juice and dairy shops, to ensure the safety of the products on display and their suitability for human consumption.
  • Markets and shopping centers: Monitoring the commitment of malls and popular markets to health and regulatory requirements, given the large turnout they witness during the nights of the holy month.
  • Adjusting monitoring times: The work of the monitors has been rescheduled to suit the peak Ramadan times, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the evening periods and the pre-Iftar and Suhoor periods.

Hygiene and environmental sanitation: a top priority

Regarding the sanitation sector, the municipality has developed flexible plans for waste management in densely populated areas. Mechanical and manual street sweeping will be intensified on main roads, along waterfronts, and in areas surrounding major mosques and prayer halls. These efforts aim to remove waste promptly to maintain the city's appearance and prevent waste accumulation that could result from increased consumption.

In parallel, environmental sanitation teams continue their efforts to combat public health pests, focusing on mosquito breeding grounds that transmit dengue fever, using the latest technologies and environmentally safe pesticides, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents and visitors.

Combating negative phenomena and community partnership

The plan also includes decisive measures to prevent negative phenomena such as unlicensed street vendors and makeshift stalls that may obstruct traffic or offer food of unknown origin. The municipality emphasized that the success of this plan depends largely on the awareness of residents and visitors, urging everyone to cooperate by immediately reporting any violations through the "Baladi" app or by calling the unified reporting number 940. It stressed that community partnership is the cornerstone of improving the quality of life in Jeddah.
