Establishing a truck convoy area at Jeddah Islamic Port

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), in cooperation with the General Authority for Roads and Transportation, Elm Company, and Roshen Group, announced a major strategic step: the establishment of a truck convoy area at Jeddah Islamic Port. This massive project spans one million square meters and boasts an enormous capacity of up to 40,000 trucks per day. This achievement aims to regulate and manage truck flow according to precise operational schedules, thereby increasing operational efficiency and maximizing the port's capacity, making it a key contributor to the national economy and supply chains.
The historical and strategic importance of Jeddah Islamic Port
Jeddah Islamic Port is the largest and most important port on the Red Sea coast, boasting a long and distinguished history spanning decades as a major gateway for global trade and a key hub for goods destined for Saudi Arabia. With rapid economic development, the need to upgrade the port's infrastructure to accommodate the increasing volume of trade has become paramount. This new area represents the culmination of the Kingdom's efforts to modernize its vital facilities, aligning with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy within Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to solidify the Kingdom's position as a global logistics center connecting three continents.
Advanced technologies and an integrated operating model
The new zone relies on an integrated operational model based on pre-scheduling and managing truck flow along designated routes. The Public Roads Authority has successfully employed the latest technologies and advanced mechanisms to ensure the efficient management of truck parking and enhance integration with various modes of transport. This includes automated verification of truck data via smart systems, real-time routing of convoys and waiting lanes, and the allocation of direct lanes for trucks ready to enter without delay. This ensures smooth traffic flow, especially during peak hours, and minimizes traffic impacts in surrounding areas.

Economic and logistical impact at all levels
The impact of this project extends beyond improving internal operations to encompass local, regional, and international dimensions. Locally, the project will contribute to alleviating traffic congestion within Jeddah and reducing haphazard parking at the city gates. Regionally, the project enhances the Kingdom's ability to facilitate the movement of exports, imports, and transit containers across the Red Sea, thus supporting trade with neighboring countries. Internationally, accelerating supply chains and reducing waiting times will improve the Kingdom's global logistics performance indicators, attracting more shipping lines and foreign investment.
Advanced service facilities for the comfort of drivers
In addition to operational processes, the zone places great emphasis on human resources, offering comprehensive support facilities and services. These include fully equipped waiting areas, dedicated driver comfort services, and state-of-the-art operational and administrative offices. The zone also features an integrated control and operations center that monitors truck movement in real time, proactively manages its flow, and efficiently handles any exceptional situations. This system covers the entire truck journey, from reception and registration through sorting and routing, to appointment confirmation and seamless port entry, ensuring a significantly improved user experience and enhanced punctuality.
