The Governor of Jeddah inaugurates Jeddah Innovation Valley at King Abdulaziz University

In a strategic move that reinforces the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, Governor of Jeddah, inaugurated today the “Jeddah Valley Innovation Complex” and the “Jeddah Valley Innovation and Business Zone.” This massive project falls under the umbrella of Jeddah Valley Company, the knowledge-based investment arm of King Abdulaziz University, and was attended by a distinguished group of academic and executive leaders, including Dr. Ahmed bin Hamed Naqadi, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees; Dr. Tarif bin Yousef Al-Aama, the University President; and Dr. Sattam Linjawi, the company’s CEO.
Strengthening the knowledge economy system
The launch of this project comes at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing a comprehensive development drive within the framework of Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on the transition from a traditional economy to a knowledge-based economy. Saudi universities play a pivotal role in this transformation by investing in the outputs of scientific research and converting them into products and services with added economic value. Jeddah Valley serves as a prime example of this approach, aiming to bridge the gap between the academic sector and the industrial and commercial sectors.
Strategic location and advanced infrastructure
The project boasts a prime location on Prince Majid Road, a vital artery in Jeddah, placing it in close proximity to King Abdulaziz International Airport and key city centers. Spanning 81,791 square meters, the development comprises seven modern buildings with a total built-up area of 40,000 square meters, along with 700 parking spaces. This makes it an attractive environment for local and international companies seeking to capitalize on its proximity to university talent and research centers.
Launch details and agreements
The opening ceremony included a tour of the area's facilities by His Highness the Governor, followed by a visual presentation showcasing Wadi Jeddah Company's journey and achievements in supporting innovation. As a culmination of these efforts, the ceremony witnessed the signing of strategic cooperation agreements between Wadi Jeddah Company and both the Saudi Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Saudi Society of General Surgery, aimed at strengthening the medical and research business environment. The ceremony concluded with the recognition of sponsors and supporters.
An integrated environment for entrepreneurship
The CEO of Wadi Jeddah explained that the area was designed as an integrated platform that not only provides modern office spaces but also offers a comprehensive system including innovation labs and business incubation and acceleration programs. This facilitates the transformation of scientific ideas and technological innovations into viable and competitive commercial projects. The project aims to attract major companies to establish regional headquarters within the university campus, creating high-quality investment opportunities and contributing to the localization of technology and the creation of sustainable jobs for Saudi talent.
