Saudi Arabia weather: Rain and hail in Mecca and Hail, weather alerts issued

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued today a series of urgent weather alerts regarding the expected weather conditions in several regions, warning of weather fluctuations including rainfall of varying intensity and hail, which calls for caution and vigilance on the part of citizens and residents.

Weather details in Mecca and Hail

The center explained in its daily report that the Makkah region, specifically the Holy City, Al-Jumum Governorate, and several neighboring areas, is experiencing light rainfall, the effects of which will continue until 10:00 PM today. This weather pattern is part of the seasonal fluctuations the region experiences at this time of year.

In a related development, the meteorological department warned of a more severe weather system affecting the Hail region, bringing rain accompanied by strong surface winds that could stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility. The center cautioned about the possibility of flash floods in valleys and ravines, as well as hail and thunderstorms in the region's governorates, open areas, and highways, noting that this weather pattern would continue until 10:00 PM.

A widespread rainstorm is expected to begin on Sunday

In anticipation of the weather conditions in the coming days, the National Center for Meteorology issued an early warning about an approaching rain wave starting next Sunday, December 7th. According to the outputs of the advanced "Saudi Numerical Model" for analyzing climate data, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across a wide geographical area of the Kingdom.

The center identified the regions that will be affected by this ongoing rainfall, expected to last for several days, as: Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Madinah, Makkah, Hail, and Al-Qassim, extending to the northern parts of the Eastern Province. This expansion of the rainfall area is a significant indicator that necessitates increased preparedness in the service and security sectors in those regions.

The importance of the Saudi numerical model and its readiness

The center's adoption of the "Saudi Numerical Model" reflects a qualitative leap in the accuracy of local weather forecasts. This system contributes to providing precise readings that help relevant authorities manage potential crises with high efficiency. These technologies play a vital role in reducing the risks posed by flash floods and extreme weather events, thus enhancing the safety of infrastructure and lives.

Safety and Civil Defense Guidelines

Given these forecasts, the relevant authorities and the Civil Defense emphasized the necessity of strictly adhering to safety instructions, which include staying away from floodplains and valleys, not attempting to cross valleys while they are flowing regardless of the water level, and avoiding low-lying areas and water accumulations. The Meteorology Department also urged everyone to follow updates and early warnings through official channels to ensure they receive accurate and reliable information.
