The Minister of Industry inspects Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries
In a move reflecting the growing interest in developing the industrial sector in the southern regions of the Kingdom, His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Mr. Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, conducted a comprehensive inspection visit to Jazan City for Basic and Downstream Industries. He was accompanied on this tour by the President of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Engineer Khalid Al-Salem, to review the progress of work at a number of vital facilities and logistical installations under the Commission's supervision.
Strategic importance and prime geographical location
This visit is significant due to the strategic location of Jazan City for Basic and Downstream Industries, situated on the Red Sea coast, a vital waterway for global trade. The tour is part of the implementation of the National Industrial Strategy, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a leading industrial power and a global logistics hub connecting three continents, in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.
Port: Saudi Export Gateway
The minister began his tour by inspecting the port of Madinah, a cornerstone of the Kingdom's logistics infrastructure. He reviewed the advanced facilities in the container terminal and the maritime control center. This port plays a pivotal role in facilitating Saudi exports to regional and international markets, particularly given the growing trade activity through the Red Sea, thus enhancing the global competitiveness of Saudi products.
Titanium industry: Global leadership
In the context of localizing specialized industries, His Excellency visited the Advanced Industries Smelting Company (ASIC) plant. This plant is considered one of the largest smelters in the world dedicated to the production of titanium raw materials. The Minister was briefed on the advanced technologies used in the production lines, which have a processing capacity of approximately 500,000 tons annually of titanium slag (concentrates) and 250,000 tons of high-purity sponge iron. These products are essential inputs for strategic and precision industries, most notably the aerospace industry, thus positioning the Kingdom among the leading countries in downstream mining industries.
Quality of life and sustainable development
The visit concluded with a tour of the “Jidana” beach on the city’s waterfront, a project reflecting the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu’s commitment to implementing the “Quality of Life Program” standards. The industrial city aims to create a balanced environment that combines industrial development with the social well-being of its workers and residents, making it a model for modern and sustainable industrial cities.
