Makkah Environment delivers 11 tons of vegetables to a charity in Jeddah

In a move that reflects the integration between regulatory work and social responsibility, the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah Region, represented by the Markets and Slaughterhouses Department in the Central Vegetable and Fruit Market in Jeddah Governorate, delivered a huge quantity of agricultural products amounting to (11,431 kg) of various vegetables and fruits to one of the approved charitable associations in the region.

This initiative comes after the technical and regulatory teams completed thorough inspections to ensure the safety and suitability of these products for human consumption, in accordance with the highest quality standards and approved regulations, so that they can be directed to support beneficiary families instead of being destroyed, as part of ongoing efforts to promote food safety and reduce waste.

Enhancing food security and Vision 2030

This step is particularly important within the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's National Food Security Strategy, adopted as part of Vision 2030. The Ministry is actively working to reduce food loss and waste, a global and local challenge. Redirecting confiscated food that is safe for consumption to charitable channels is an effective mechanism that contributes to preserving natural and economic resources and supports the initiatives of the National Program for Reducing Food Loss and Waste.

Corporate social responsibility and support for the third sector

The ministry branch confirmed that this initiative falls within the framework of activating the social responsibility of government entities and contributes directly to supporting the non-profit sector (the third sector). Instead of being an environmental burden, confiscated land, thanks to this mechanism, becomes a source of funding for charitable work, thus achieving social solidarity and providing basic food needs for beneficiaries of charitable organizations' services, while emphasizing the continued application of penalties against those who violate agricultural and municipal regulations.

Continued intensive monitoring tours

For its part, the beneficiary charity expressed its appreciation for this fruitful cooperation, praising the vital role played by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch and the Markets and Slaughterhouses Department in supporting charitable work. In a related context, the ministry branch continues its intensive inspection tours of the central fruit and vegetable market in Jeddah, in coordination with relevant authorities, to ensure the safety of food products, protect consumers from commercial fraud, and verify the availability and quality of goods in the markets.
