The roots of innovation in the historical and enrichment sites hackathon

Organizing this event was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather an extension of an ambitious national vision aimed at integrating modern technology with the rich heritage of the past. Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always sought to harness the latest technologies to serve pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the idea of establishing competitive platforms that bring together young and creative minds from around the world to find sustainable technological and cultural solutions took shape. Previous seasons of the hackathon have achieved tangible successes in transforming theoretical ideas into practical applications that have enriched the visitor experience, making the third season a focal point for those interested in the religious tourism and technology sectors, and a key contributor to highlighting the Kingdom's rich cultural and historical identity.

Innovative projects and global competition

The hackathon was organized with the primary goal of enriching the cultural and religious experience of pilgrims by fostering innovative minds in a stimulating and competitive environment. This season saw the participation of nearly 300 applicants, with 40 high-quality innovative projects reaching the advanced stages, representing more than 32 countries worldwide. To ensure the quality of the outcomes, these projects were overseen by a select group of 16 judges, 11 trainers, and 10 mentors from various relevant organizations.

The event also included a rich package of accompanying programs specifically designed to enhance the efficiency of the participants, including more than 50 training courses and enrichment meetings, totaling 380 training hours, in addition to 20 mentoring sessions and a range of educational trips, which directly contributed to developing the skills of the competitors and enhancing their innovative outputs.

Remarkable competition and a crowning achievement for the creative minds

The various hackathon tracks witnessed remarkable competition among the participating teams, resulting in the selection of outstanding projects that offered innovative solutions. The "Zilla" project deservedly won first place in the Design Innovation track. In the Technological Innovation track, the "Murshidi" project secured second place, while the "Raqab" project came in third. In the Cultural Innovation track, the "Najmat Al-Hawiya" project achieved a shared third place, demonstrating the diversity and depth of the ideas presented.

Expected impact of innovations at the local and international levels

The significance of this hackathon extends far beyond its status as a mere technology competition, representing a strategic pillar with far-reaching impacts. Locally, the event contributes to supporting the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem within the Kingdom, and strengthens national partnerships between the academic and governmental sectors, creating new job opportunities and bolstering the knowledge economy. Regionally and internationally, the projects resulting from this global gathering offer exportable solutions applicable to other historical and religious sites around the world. Furthermore, improving the quality of services provided to the millions of Muslims who visit the Kingdom annually reflects the bright image of Saudi Arabia's technological advancement and underscores the Kingdom's leadership in harnessing technology to serve humanity and enrich global human heritage.
