Rain in Al-Baha and fog in the north: weather conditions and meteorological alerts

The Al-Baha region experienced significant weather fluctuations today, with rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy, leading to flash floods in some areas. This rainfall was accompanied by near-zero visibility due to dense fog that blanketed the Sarawat Mountains, necessitating caution from motorists.
The rain affected large and scattered areas of Al-Baha city and its suburbs, extending to the governorates of Baljurashi, Bani Hassan, Al-Qura, Al-Mandaq, Al-Aqiq, Al-Makhwah, Qalwah, Ghamid Al-Zanad, and Al-Hajrah. The centers within these governorates and several tourist parks were also affected by the weather, which created stunning natural scenery despite traffic warnings.
Geographical nature and its impact on rainfall in Al-Baha
The Al-Baha region possesses a unique climate due to its strategic location on the Sarawat Mountains. These towering mountains are a major factor in attracting cumulonimbus clouds, resulting in some of the highest rainfall rates in the Kingdom. Historically, the rainy seasons in Al-Baha have been closely linked to the region's agricultural cycle. Farmers in the renowned terraced fields rely on these flash floods to irrigate their diverse crops, thus enhancing vegetation cover and replenishing groundwater reserves in wells and dams.
Weather conditions in Al-Jawf and fog alerts
In parallel with the rainy weather in the south, the National Center for Meteorology issued an important alert concerning the northern regions of the Kingdom. The center warned of a light fog wave affecting the governorates of Al-Qurayyat and Tabarjal in the Al-Jawf region. Forecasts indicate that this condition will begin at 1:00 AM and continue until 8:00 AM on Sunday, accompanied by a decrease in horizontal visibility ranging between 3 and 5 kilometers.
Environmental importance and public safety guidelines
These weather fluctuations are of great importance both environmentally and locally. Environmentally, the heavy rainfall contributes to soil leaching and air renewal, in addition to its vital role in supporting the winter tourism for which the Kingdom's highlands are renowned. However, this situation also carries implications that require caution; flash floods and water accumulation pose potential hazards on highways and within valleys.
In such circumstances, coinciding with the rains in Al-Baha and the fog in the north, the relevant authorities always stress the need to follow safety guidelines, such as avoiding excessive speed while driving in the fog, and staying away from flood channels and valley bottoms, to ensure the safety of lives and property during these active weather conditions.
