Weather warning: Heavy rain expected in Al-Jawf and the Northern Borders region

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an urgent warning to citizens and residents regarding expected heavy rainfall in Al-Jawf and the Northern Borders region. This warning comes as part of ongoing monitoring of the weather fluctuations affecting various regions of the Kingdom during this period. These alerts are issued to ensure the safety of lives and property, as the rainfall is expected to be accompanied by various weather phenomena requiring the utmost caution.
Details of the rainfall situation and affected areas
The report issued by the National Center for Meteorology indicated that the weather system will include rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy. In the Al-Jawf region, the city of Sakaka and the governorates of Qurayyat, Tabuk, and Dumat al-Jandal will be affected by these weather changes on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, at varying intervals. As for the Northern Borders region, the rainy conditions will extend to the city of Arar and the governorates of Tarif, Rafha, and Al-Uwayqilah, beginning on Wednesday and continuing, God willing, until next Sunday.
The center also warned that these rains will be accompanied by strong downdrafts, hail, and a high probability of flash floods in valleys and ravines, which calls for caution and avoiding being in valleys.
The climatic nature of northern Saudi Arabia and the role of early monitoring
Historically, the northern regions of Saudi Arabia are characterized by sharp weather fluctuations during the transitional periods between seasons. These changes are part of the typical climatic pattern across the Arabian Peninsula, where cold air masses from the north meet warm, humid air masses, leading to the formation of intense thunderstorms. In this context, the National Center of Meteorology plays a pivotal role, utilizing the latest satellite and radar monitoring technologies to provide early and accurate warnings that help mitigate potential risks and guide relevant authorities in taking necessary proactive measures.
Heavy rains affect Al-Jawf, the northern borders, and vital sectors
has Heavy rainfall in Al-Jawf and the Northern Borders region varying dimensions and impacts at both the local and regional levels. On the positive side, Al-Jawf is a vital food basket for the Kingdom, renowned for its olive groves and strategic crops; therefore, this rainfall significantly contributes to irrigating farms, enhancing vegetation cover, and raising groundwater levels, thus supporting environmental and agricultural sustainability in the region.
On the other hand, this weather condition poses challenges to infrastructure and public safety. Flash floods and downdrafts may affect land transportation between cities and northern provinces that connect the Kingdom to neighboring countries. Therefore, the General Directorate of Civil Defense and traffic authorities are working in coordination with the Meteorology Department to raise the level of preparedness and issue continuous awareness messages to travelers and residents of these areas, stressing the need to adhere to instructions, avoid speeding on wet roads, and stay away from areas where water accumulates to ensure everyone's safety.
