Health services for pilgrims: 121,000 medical services

As part of its extensive preparations for the Hajj season, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues its leading role in providing the best possible medical care. The medical system has provided more than 121,626 health services to pilgrims since the start of the 1447 AH Hajj season until the first day of Dhul-Hijjah. These tremendous efforts are part of a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing the quality of medical care, ensuring the safety of pilgrims, in line with the objectives of the "Health Sector Transformation Program" and the "Serving the Pilgrims" Program, both stemming from the Kingdom's Vision 2030, to enable pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.

The evolution of medical care during Hajj seasons throughout history

The concern for the health of pilgrims is not a recent development, but rather an extension of a long history of care and attention given to this matter by the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since its founding. Historically, Mecca and the Holy Sites have witnessed tremendous development in their healthcare infrastructure, from small clinics and mobile medical units in past decades to the construction of integrated medical cities and field hospitals equipped with the latest global technologies today. This continuous development reflects a firm commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment, with the state dedicating all its human and material resources to ensuring that Hajj seasons are free from epidemics and infectious diseases. This has made the Saudi experience in medical crowd management a model to be emulated globally.

Comprehensive statistics on health services for pilgrims

The latest data released by the Ministry of Health reveals figures reflecting the scale of efforts undertaken to provide healthcare services to pilgrims. The total number of beneficiaries of health center and urgent care services reached approximately 27,019. In addition, hospital emergency departments received 14,610 cases, while outpatient clinics saw 1,711 patients. Care was not limited to initial examinations; 2,150 cases were admitted to hospitals for necessary treatment. Furthermore, 138 complex surgical procedures were performed, including 87 cardiac catheterizations and 7 open-heart surgeries, confirming the complete readiness to handle critical and complex cases to save the lives of pilgrims.

Immediate handling of heat stress cases

With the rising temperatures during Hajj, certain health challenges arise, most notably heatstroke and heat exhaustion. Field medical teams responded immediately and efficiently to 10 cases of heat exhaustion. These teams operate within a sophisticated field system designed for rapid response and enhanced medical intervention across the holy sites. Additionally, the unified call center (937) received over 11,575 calls providing medical consultations and immediate support, making it easier for pilgrims to access health guidance at any time.

Strategic dimensions and global impact of healthcare in Hajj

The continued success in providing high-quality medical care during the Hajj season is of paramount importance and has far-reaching implications at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, this success enhances the competence of Saudi medical personnel and develops the capabilities of the national health system in crisis management and crowd control. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom sends a message of reassurance to millions of Muslims worldwide and their governments, confirming that their pilgrims are in safe hands. Furthermore, the World Health Organization and other international health bodies view the management of the Hajj as a scientific and practical benchmark in preventive medicine and mass gathering medicine, further solidifying the Kingdom's position as a leading force in global healthcare. The health system continues its efforts with high efficiency, relying on proactive plans that ensure the provision of advanced and safe medical care, reflecting its ongoing commitment to providing the highest standards of care during this largest religious gathering in the world.
