In a remarkable achievement reflecting the scale of care and attention provided, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues its exceptional efforts in providing healthcare services to pilgrims during the Hajj season of 1447 AH. As of the fifth day of Dhul-Hijjah, the healthcare system announced the provision of over 655,983 medical and preventative services to pilgrims. These tremendous efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of medical care and ensuring the health and safety of pilgrims, in full alignment with the objectives of the "Health Sector Transformation Program" and the "Serving the Pilgrims" Program. These programs are key pillars of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to enable pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.
A distinguished history of medical care during Hajj
Over the decades, medical care during Hajj seasons has not been a recent development, but rather the continuation of a long history of evolution and innovation. Since the Kingdom's founding, the wise leadership has placed the health of pilgrims at the forefront of its priorities. Field hospitals and health centers in Mecca and the Holy Sites have evolved from simple medical tents into fully integrated medical cities equipped with the latest global technologies. This historical legacy reflects a firm commitment to developing healthcare infrastructure year after year to meet increasing challenges such as massive gatherings and climate change, making the Saudi experience in medical crowd management a model studied and emulated worldwide.
Accurate statistics reflect the scale of medical care
Official data released by the Ministry of Health revealed figures reflecting the scale of the tireless work; the total number of beneficiaries of health center and urgent care services reached approximately 36,159. At the same time, emergency departments received 24,481 cases, which were handled with high professionalism by medical teams. Additionally, 3,250 patients visited outpatient clinics, and 3,328 cases were admitted to hospitals to receive the necessary care. Efforts were not limited to primary care but also included complex surgical interventions, with 240 surgical procedures performed, including 167 cardiac catheterizations and 9 open-heart surgeries, confirming the system's readiness to handle critical cases and save the lives of pilgrims.
The impact of health services for pilgrims locally and internationally
Providing healthcare services to pilgrims with such efficiency is of paramount importance and has far-reaching impacts at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, this success reinforces the confidence of citizens and residents in the efficiency of the Saudi healthcare sector and its exceptional ability to manage crises and major seasons. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in ensuring the health of millions of pilgrims arriving from all corners of the globe directly contributes to preventing the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases across borders, thus making Hajj a safe and healthy environment. This pivotal role solidifies the Kingdom's position as a global leader in preventive medicine and crowd management, and reflects its noble humanitarian mission of serving Muslims from all over the world.
Rapid response and advanced preventive measures
In response to the climatic challenges, medical teams promptly and efficiently treated 15 cases of heat exhaustion. This was part of a sophisticated field system designed for rapid response and enhanced medical intervention across various locations within the Holy Sites. These treatment efforts were supported by extensive preventative campaigns, which provided over 289,700 preventative services, directly contributing to the health of pilgrims and preventing disease outbreaks. Additionally, the unified call center (937) received over 13,615 calls for medical consultations and immediate support. The healthcare system continues its efforts with proactive plans and integrated, high-quality services to ensure the provision of advanced and safe medical care, reflecting its ongoing commitment to delivering the highest standards of care during the Hajj season.
