The Haramain train recorded 3,662 trips to serve visitors during Ramadan

The Haramain High-Speed Railway is one of the most prominent achievements in the transportation sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its operational program embodies an advanced model for the efficient transport of millions of passengers between Mecca and Medina. With the arrival of Ramadan, the Haramain Railway's role became particularly prominent in accommodating the large influx of visitors and pilgrims, facilitating their movement between the two holy cities quickly, easily, and safely. The operational plan included operating more than 3,662 trips during the holy month of Ramadan, providing over 1.7 million seats for passengers and visitors, thus confirming its complete readiness to meet the increased demand.
A qualitative leap in the history of transportation in Mecca and Medina
In its historical context, the inauguration of the high-speed rail project between the two holy cities in 2018 marked a radical turning point in the history of transportation in the Kingdom. Before this massive project, the journey between Mecca and Medina took many hours by bus and car, placing a heavy burden on pilgrims. Today, thanks to this advanced infrastructure, one of the largest transportation projects in the Middle East, the journey time has been reduced to approximately two hours, with an operating speed of 300 km/h. This development not only reflects technological advancement but also embodies the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the experience of pilgrims and facilitate their accommodation in increasing numbers year after year.
Haramain Railway's efforts during Ramadan and expanding its capacity
Hussam Al-Shehri, Head of Corporate Communications at Saudi Railway Company (SAR), affirmed the company's keenness to accommodate the increased number of Umrah pilgrims and visitors during Ramadan. To achieve this, a comprehensive operational plan, the largest of its kind, was implemented, increasing the number of daily trips during the last ten days of Ramadan to more than 140. This exceptional measure by the Haramain High-Speed Railway provides flexible and multiple transportation options throughout the day and significantly reduces waiting times during peak hours. To ensure the sustainability of this efficiency, operational and technical teams are working around the clock to maintain readiness, ensure smooth operations, and adhere to the highest safety standards.
Regional impact and infrastructure support to serve Muslims
The impact of this remarkable development extends far beyond the local level, easing traffic congestion and reducing carbon emissions. It has a far-reaching regional and international impact. Millions of Muslims from around the world experience firsthand the quality of services provided, further solidifying Saudi Arabia's position as a leading global destination capable of managing massive crowds with unparalleled efficiency. In a strategic move to enhance this impact, SAR recently signed an agreement to purchase 20 new trains from the Spanish company Talgo, adding to its existing fleet of 35 trains and providing unprecedented capacity in the coming seasons.
An exceptional experience and satisfaction exceeding expectations
At the train stations, particularly in Medina and Mecca, passing through Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh, travelers express a mixture of gratitude and complete satisfaction. Pilgrims unanimously agree that traveling via the high-speed rail network has become their preferred option, thanks to its exceptional comfort, punctuality, and speed of arrival despite the massive passenger volume. This comprehensive experience reflects the commitment of the relevant authorities to providing the highest quality services and underscores that investing in human comfort is the cornerstone of the success of any national project serving those visiting the Holy Mosque.
