These figures underscore the keenness of the wise leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to place serving the pilgrims at the forefront of its absolute priorities, and to dedicate all available material and human resources to facilitate their spiritual journey from the moment they depart their countries until their arrival in Makkah and Madinah.
The historical context of the Kingdom's efforts in serving pilgrims
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been associated with the honor of serving the Two Holy Mosques. For decades, these sacred sites have witnessed major expansions and continuous infrastructure development. This concern for pilgrims is not a recent development, but rather an extension of a long-standing historical legacy upon which the Saudi state was founded. This commitment is renewed year after year through the adoption of the latest technologies and the expansion of the holy sites' capacity to ensure the comfort and safety of the millions of Muslims who flock from all corners of the earth to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.
Makkah Route Initiative and streamlined procedures
In a related context, the minister explained that air ports received the largest share of pilgrims, with 820,000 arriving, while land ports recorded the arrival of 35,000 pilgrims, and sea ports 4,000. Among the most notable achievements in this regard was the Makkah Route Initiative, which facilitated the smooth and easy processing of over 240,000 pilgrims from their home countries, reflecting a significant improvement in the logistical services provided.
Regional and international impact of developing the Hajj system
The profound significance of this annual event transcends local boundaries, leaving a deep regional and international impact. Internationally, the Kingdom presents a unique model for managing millions of pilgrims and providing them with healthcare and security within a limited geographical area and in record time. This success reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader of the Islamic world and underscores its ability to build bridges of cultural and religious understanding with diverse peoples across the globe.
Digital transformation and the Nusk application
Regarding digital transformation, the minister revealed exceptional figures related to the Nusuk app, which has surpassed 51 million users. He also highlighted the role of the private sector, represented by more than 30 Saudi companies that provided services to pilgrims from over 126 non-Muslim countries through a direct booking system without the need for intermediaries, thus ensuring greater transparency and a better user experience.
Infrastructure projects and green spaces
The relevant authorities did not neglect the environmental aspect or infrastructure development. The capacity in Mina was increased thanks to the establishment of the Kadana Al-Khaif camps, covering an area of approximately 24,000 square meters. More than 60,000 trees were planted as part of the Green Sites Initiative, and a climate control system with over 6,000 misting columns was activated to alleviate the summer heat for pilgrims. The Minister added that the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites implemented more than 25 development projects, representing a 100% increase compared to last year.
Integrating government efforts for a successful season
These statements were made during a high-level government press conference held on Wednesday, which was attended by several ministers to emphasize the integrated efforts of the Hajj and Umrah Ministry. The conference was hosted by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, along with the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Majid Al-Hogail; the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Saleh Al-Jasser; the Minister of Health, Fahd Al-Jalajel; and the Minister of Media, Salman Al-Dosari.
