Preparations for Hajj 1447 are complete: Details of the Kingdom's readiness

The Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, announced the early completion of preparations for Hajj 1447 , stressing that all capabilities and resources have been harnessed to serve the pilgrims, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. This announcement came during his active participation in the government press conference, where he revealed promising figures reflecting the scale of the efforts made, noting that more than 860,000 pilgrims have arrived so far, of whom 820,000 came through air ports, 35,000 by land, and about 4,000 by sea.
Historical development in crowd and seasonal management
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on organizing the Hajj pilgrimage, with crowd management and service delivery mechanisms undergoing radical development over the decades. Since the Kingdom's founding, serving the Two Holy Mosques has been a top priority for its wise leadership. With the increasing number of Muslims worldwide, the Kingdom has moved from traditional methods to adopting the latest digital technologies and advanced infrastructure to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims. This long-standing legacy of managing the world's largest annual human gathering is clearly evident in the meticulous organization of the current pilgrimage. Preparations for the new season begin immediately after the conclusion of the previous one, as was the case this year with the delivery of the preliminary arrangements document to the Hajj affairs offices on the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah.
Strategic dimensions of the success of Hajj preparations 1447
The importance of the successful preparations for Hajj 1447 extends beyond the religious dimension, encompassing wide-ranging positive impacts at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, the Hajj season contributes to revitalizing the national economy and providing thousands of seasonal job opportunities, in addition to enhancing the infrastructure of Mecca and the Holy Sites. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's ability to host millions of pilgrims from diverse nationalities in safety and security reinforces its leading position in the Islamic world and underscores its pivotal role as a force for stability and development. This international cooperation was exemplified by the signing of organizational agreements with 78 countries six months prior to the start of the season, which facilitated the early completion of contracts and the unprecedentedly smooth issuance of visas.
Unprecedented boom in infrastructure and facilities
In terms of infrastructure, the Holy Sites witnessed remarkable development, with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites implementing more than 25 development projects, representing a 100% increase compared to last year. These projects included shading and cooling the area surrounding Mount Arafat (Jabal al-Rahma), covering an area exceeding 272,000 square meters, five times the size of last year. Pedestrian walkways were also developed, covering 103,000 square meters, and additional rest areas were created, covering 66,000 square meters, a 220% increase. To further enhance the comfort of pilgrims, the capacity of the Kadana Valley camps was increased by 24,000 square meters near the Jamarat facility.
Environmental initiatives and advanced shuttle transport
Environmental efforts included planting over 60,000 trees as part of the "Green Feelings" initiative, a threefold increase compared to last year. This coincided with the activation of an air conditioning system comprising more than 6,000 misting columns to improve the overall environment. Regarding transportation, relevant authorities enhanced their readiness by operating shuttle services and equipping the bus fleet with a central control room. Supervisory teams conducted over 50,000 inspection tours to ensure the readiness of the sites. The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque also prepared the electrical, air conditioning, and Zamzam water supply systems, launched a 3D mapping and navigation system, and translated the Arafat sermon into 50 languages.
Digital transformation and streamlining procedures
At the Prophet's Mosque, the capacity of the Rawdah Al-Sharifah (the area between the Prophet's grave and his pulpit) was increased to approximately 57,000 visitors daily thanks to the early online booking system, raising visitor satisfaction to 88%. The Minister confirmed the continued distribution of the "Nusk" smart cards to all pilgrims and the expansion of the "Hajj Without Luggage" initiative to include all pilgrims from abroad, reducing arrival procedures at the airport to just 15 minutes. The "Nusk" digital platform also continues to serve more than 51 million users worldwide. The Minister concluded by commending the Ministry of Interior's efforts in implementing the "No Hajj Without a Permit" campaign, warning against fraudulent campaigns, and expressing his gratitude to the wise leadership for its unwavering support in ensuring the safety and security of the pilgrims.
