The preacher of the Grand Mosque: Piety is the key to acceptance in Ramadan and the virtues of fasting

In a solemn and faith-filled atmosphere at the Grand Mosque, the Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Maher Al-Muaiqly, advised the Muslim congregation to fear God Almighty, stressing that it is the true provision that will save the servant on the Day of Resurrection, in the Friday sermon which he dedicated to talking about welcoming the blessed month of Ramadan and the virtues of deeds in it.

The concept of piety and its effect on the acceptance of deeds

His Eminence began the sermon by emphasizing that piety is the path to salvation and safety, and the way to success and honor, citing religious texts that show that God provides a way out of every hardship for the pious. The Sheikh elaborated on the definition of piety with comprehensive and concise words, explaining that it is "to act in obedience to God, guided by His light, hoping for His reward, and to refrain from disobeying God, guided by His light, fearing His punishment." He stressed that the acceptance of good deeds, whether fasting, prayer, or charity, is contingent upon attaining this piety, in accordance with the Almighty's words: "Indeed, God only accepts from the pious.".

Ramadan: A Global Spiritual Station

In discussing the importance of events, the blessed month of Ramadan stands out as the most significant annual event anticipated by the Muslim world, as Muslims turn their eyes and hearts towards the Grand Mosque in Mecca. The significance of this month extends beyond individual worship, becoming a manifestation of Islamic unity, as Muslims across the globe fast simultaneously. The pulpit of the Grand Mosque serves as a spiritual guide for the Muslim community, lending the words of the Grand Mosque's preacher profound importance and a wide-ranging influence that transcends the geographical boundaries of the Kingdom, touching the hearts of Muslims everywhere and motivating them to prepare for this great season.

The school of fasting and the virtues of sincerity

Dr. Al-Muaiqly discussed the virtues of fasting, explaining that it is an educational institution that teaches patience and sincerity. He clarified that fasting is a hidden act of worship, the sincerity of which is known only to God. Therefore, God Almighty has reserved the reward for those who fast and made their recompense immeasurable. He pointed to the great reward that God has prepared for those who fast on the Day of Resurrection, where He has designated for them one of the eight gates of Paradise called "Al-Rayyan," through which no one else will enter, as an honor to them for their patience and their abstention from worldly desires and pleasures in pursuit of God's noble countenance.

Social solidarity and the Quran in the month of goodness

The Imam of the Grand Mosque concluded his sermon by emphasizing the social and humanitarian dimension of fasting. He explained that during Ramadan, the wealthy become more aware of the needs of the poor and the hunger of the needy, which softens hearts and motivates generosity and giving. He also urged Muslims to increase their recitation of the Holy Quran and reflect upon its meanings, for Ramadan is the month of the Quran, a time when divine mercy descends and sins are forgiven. He called upon everyone to seize this golden opportunity to correct their course and sincerely repent before it is too late.
