Friday's weather in Saudi Arabia: Frost, dust, and active winds in 9 regions

The National Center for Meteorology issued its detailed daily weather report for Friday in Saudi Arabia , revealing significant weather fluctuations affecting large areas of the country. The report indicates that a wave of frost and strong winds stirring up dust and sand will prevail in parts of nine administrative regions, urging citizens and residents, especially drivers and highway users, to exercise caution.

Weather details and affected areas

According to the meteorological statement, the impact of active winds reducing horizontal visibility due to dust and sand continues in parts of the Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah , extending to the eastern parts of the Al-Baha and Asir . Meanwhile, the northern regions are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with cold to very cold weather prevailing and a high probability of frost during the night and early morning hours. The areas affected by frost include the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Hail, and Tabuk regions , as well as the northern parts of the Madinah and Eastern regions.

The state of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Regarding the sea conditions, the center explained that surface winds over the Red Sea are westerly to northerly in the northern and central parts, with speeds ranging from 25 to 45 km/h, while they are southeasterly to southerly in the southern part. Wave heights are expected to reach up to 2.5 meters in the northern and central areas, resulting in rough sea conditions. In the Arabian Gulf, northwesterly winds are active, reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h, with wave heights reaching up to 2.5 meters, indicating rough sea conditions that require caution from fishermen and other seafarers.

The climatic context and nature of winter in the Kingdom

These weather fluctuations are a natural part of Saudi Arabia's winter climate, as the country is typically affected by cold air masses from the north and northeast. The northern and central regions have a continental desert climate, making them susceptible to severe cold spells and frost, particularly during the periods known as Al-Murabba'aniyah and Al-Shabat. This significant geographical diversity within the Kingdom results in multiple climatic patterns occurring simultaneously. Northern regions can experience sub-zero temperatures, while the western and southern coastal areas enjoy more temperate weather or experience active monsoon winds.

The importance of warnings and their impact on public safety

These reports are of paramount importance for maintaining public safety, as dust and sandstorms directly affect horizontal visibility, potentially increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents on highways and open roads. Frost conditions also necessitate special preparations from farmers to protect their crops, and from families to ensure adequate heating and avoid winter illnesses and colds. In such weather conditions, authorities consistently urge the public to follow official weather forecasts and adhere to civil defense and traffic regulations to ensure everyone's safety.
