Friday's weather in Saudi Arabia: Fog in 4 regions and sea conditions

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily report on the expected weather conditions on Friday in various parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The report highlighted the continuation of the usual weather fluctuations at this time of year, with particular emphasis on the fog phenomenon that affects horizontal visibility.
Fog map and affected areas
The center explained in its statement that the chance of fog formation remains high during the night and early morning hours, which may lead to reduced horizontal visibility. This weather condition includes large parts of the following regions:
- Tabuk region.
- Al-Jawf region.
- Northern Border Region.
- Eastern Province.
- Parts of the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom.
Climate context: Why is fog forming now?
These forecasts come amidst the current winter weather conditions in the Kingdom, characterized by low minimum temperatures and high relative humidity, the two main factors contributing to the formation of radiation fog or haze. The northern and eastern regions are particularly susceptible to these phenomena due to their open geography and exposure to cold air masses, making it essential for residents of these areas to follow weather forecasts.
Weather conditions and safety recommendations
This report is of particular importance to drivers and travelers on highways connecting the affected areas, as dense fog often causes traffic accidents due to poor visibility. Authorities consistently advise caution, reduced speed, and the use of fog lights in such conditions, especially during the early morning hours when fog density peaks.
Sea conditions and wind patterns
Regarding the marine situation, the report provided a detailed account of wave and wind movements in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf:
Red Sea
- Surface winds will be northwesterly to northerly in the northern and central parts, shifting to southeasterly to easterly in the southern part. Wind speeds will range from 15 to 42 km/h, and may reach 48 km/h towards the Gulf of Aqaba.
- Wave height: ranging from half a meter to one and a half meters, reaching up to two meters towards the Gulf of Aqaba.
- Sea state: Light to moderate waves.
Arabian Gulf
- Surface winds: Southerly to southeasterly in the northern and central parts, and southwesterly to westerly in the southern part, with speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h.
- Wave height: from half a meter to one meter.
- Sea conditions: Light waves, making it suitable for normal marine activities.
