Faisal bin Farhan discusses relations and regional issues with the Indonesian Foreign Minister

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a telephone call today from His Excellency Mr. Sugyon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. This call comes within the framework of ongoing consultations between the two brotherly countries to strengthen ties of cooperation and coordinate positions on various issues.
During the call, the two sides reviewed the strong bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Indonesia, and discussed ways to support and develop them in various fields, in order to serve the interests of both brotherly nations. They also discussed the latest developments on the regional and international scenes, and the efforts being made in this regard, emphasizing the importance of joint action to establish the foundations of security and stability.
The depth of Saudi-Indonesian relations
Relations between Riyadh and Jakarta hold particular strategic importance, as Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, while Saudi Arabia is the holiest city in Islam and the heart of the Muslim world. These relations have spanned decades, characterized by mutual respect and constructive cooperation, especially regarding Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, where Indonesia receives a significant share of pilgrims annually, reflecting the deep spiritual and popular ties between the two nations.
Strategic partnership within Vision 2030
These talks come at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing extensive diplomatic and economic activity within the framework of "Saudi Vision 2030," which aims to diversify international partnerships and turn eastward toward emerging Asian powers. As an active member of the G20 and a rising economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is a pivotal partner for the Kingdom in trade and investment. Both countries are continuously working to increase trade volumes and explore investment opportunities in the energy, infrastructure, and digital economy sectors.
Coordinating positions in international forums
On the political front, both countries play influential roles within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations. Saudi and Indonesian perspectives consistently align on key issues of concern to the Muslim world, most notably the Palestinian cause, with both countries supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and advocating for just and comprehensive solutions. Furthermore, the two sides coordinate their efforts in combating terrorism and extremism and promoting the values of tolerance and moderation, making communication between their foreign ministers a crucial step in unifying diplomatic efforts to address current global challenges.
