Environmental violations detected in the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Reserve

The Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority, represented by its environmental monitoring teams, announced the detection and control of a number of environmental violations within the reserve, specifically in the "Rawdat Khuraim" area, as part of its ongoing efforts to protect natural resources and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
Details of observed violations
The authority revealed in its statement that it had recorded (21) various violations of the environmental regulations. These included (12) violations related to unauthorized camping in undesignated areas, which constitutes an encroachment on protected areas that require special care to ensure the growth of wild plants. (9) other violations were also recorded, classified as serious transgressions, including breaking barriers (fences), lighting fires in undesignated areas, and vehicles entering protected meadows and natural habitats, which causes significant damage to the soil and vegetation.
Environmental importance of Rawdat Khuraim and Imam Abdulaziz Reserve
These monitoring measures are of particular importance given the environmental and geographical significance of the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve, and Rawdat Khuraim in particular. The Rawdat is one of the most important green areas near Riyadh, the capital, and is characterized by its unique plant diversity, including jujube and acacia trees, as well as seasonal plants. Protecting these areas from reckless driving by vehicles and from illegal logging or open fires is essential for maintaining ecological balance, as these harmful practices lead to desertification and prevent the growth of natural seeds, thus threatening the region's biodiversity.
Linking with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative
These concerted efforts by the Authority align with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and activate the "Green Saudi Arabia" initiative, which aims to increase vegetation cover and combat desertification. Royal reserves serve as natural incubators, contributing to the restoration of the natural environment, thus enhancing the quality of life and supporting sustainable ecotourism. The Authority emphasized that environmental protection is not merely a regulatory measure, but a national priority requiring the concerted efforts of all.
Implementation of regulations and penalties
The authority emphasized that it is working in direct coordination with security and relevant agencies to strictly enforce the executive regulations of the environmental system. It clarified that the prescribed penalties will be imposed on violators without leniency, urging park visitors and members of the community to adhere to regulations and instructions and contribute to preserving the Kingdom's abundant natural resources.
