Inspection tours to prepare hospitality facilities for pilgrims during the 1447 season

The Saudi Ministry of Tourism conducted a comprehensive campaign encompassing over 19,000 inspection visits to pilgrim hospitality facilities, including hotels and temporary accommodations in both Mecca and Medina. This proactive measure aims to ensure the highest levels of preparedness in the hospitality sector to welcome pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season. These efforts included over 11,000 inspections in Mecca and more than 5,000 in Medina, with a strong emphasis on all establishments providing the highest quality services to the pilgrims.
Historical context of the development of the religious tourism sector
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, a commitment that extends back decades to the founding of the state. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the religious tourism sector has undergone a radical and institutional transformation, with oversight and regulation responsibilities being elevated to a more professional level. This year, for the first time, the Ministry of Tourism assumes direct and complete oversight of all accommodation facilities and temporary lodges designated for pilgrims. This historic shift reflects the wise leadership's commitment to unifying regulatory efforts under a single umbrella, ensuring the application of global standards of quality and safety, and contributing to a smoother pilgrim journey from arrival to departure.
Expected impact on hospitality facilities for pilgrims, both locally and internationally
Intensifying inspections of pilgrim hospitality facilities has strategic dimensions and far-reaching positive impacts. Domestically, this measure stimulates investment in the hospitality sector and enhances competition among operators to provide exceptional services, creating new job opportunities and supporting the national economy. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's commitment to providing a safe and comfortable hospitality experience reinforces its leading position as a premier Islamic destination. These rigorous measures also send a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide, confirming that the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is dedicating all its resources to ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of pilgrims, thus enriching their spiritual experience.
Inspection and awareness tours to ensure compliance
Alongside rigorous inspection tours, the Ministry did not neglect the awareness aspect. Field teams conducted over 3,300 awareness visits targeting officials and employees of tourist establishments in Mecca and Medina. These visits aimed to encourage strict adherence to quality standards and approved licensing requirements. These two-pronged efforts resulted in a significant increase in compliance across all facilities, enhancing the readiness of the entire sector to provide services befitting the grand occasion. The efforts also included over 3,000 visits dedicated to inspecting temporary accommodations to ensure their compliance with all regulatory and health requirements.
Innovative organization for housing pilgrims
As part of its proactive plans, the Ministry of Tourism has worked to regulate the accommodation sector by introducing a service for issuing "temporary lodge" licenses. This service allows building owners wishing to invest during the Hajj season to operate in a regulated and organized manner. In addition, the Ministry launched an electronic service enabling hospitality operators to temporarily and strategically increase their capacity during the season, ensuring that increased demand is met without compromising service quality. The Ministry encourages all pilgrims and beneficiaries to contact the Unified Tourism Center at 930 with any inquiries or to submit comments and complaints, thus underscoring its commitment to transparency and continuous service improvement.
