The cold wave ends and heavy rain is expected in the Eastern Province on Friday

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia, through weather analyst Aqeel Al-Aqeel, announced the end of the cold wave that dominated the Kingdom's atmosphere during the past days, announcing the country's entry into a new weather transitional phase characterized by noticeable climatic fluctuations.
Weather details and the end of the cold wave
Al-Aqeel explained that the cold wave has officially ended according to the precise scientific criteria adopted by the National Center for Meteorology. These criteria stipulate that the cold air mass must remain in effect for at least five days to be officially classified as a cold wave. He indicated that the reason for this end is the complete adaptation of the air mass, coinciding with a significant shift in wind patterns, which have returned to their southerly and southwesterly directions, paving the way for a gradual rise in temperatures.
Heavy rains hit the Eastern Province and Hafr al-Batin
In a related development, a weather analyst warned of an expected rainfall system with direct effects beginning Friday evening. He confirmed that this system will be particularly concentrated in the Eastern Province, targeting its northeastern parts, specifically the governorates of Al-Nairiyah and Hafr Al-Batin. These areas are considered hotspots for potentially heavy rainfall, necessitating caution.
The area of atmospheric instability is expected to expand to include the coastal parts of the eastern region by next Sunday, with forecasts indicating continued chances of rainfall and thunderstorms, which may affect transportation and outdoor activities in those areas.
Climate context and transition phase
These weather fluctuations are a natural part of Saudi Arabia's climatic characteristics during the transitional periods between seasons. These periods are typically marked by rapid changes in pressure systems, leading to swift and sudden atmospheric instability. A shift in wind direction is a strong indicator of a transition to a completely different weather pattern than what the regions experienced in the past week, reflecting the Kingdom's diverse geographical climate.
Important recommendations and warnings
These fluctuations are expected to continue until Monday morning, followed by a gradual stabilization and a return to normal weather conditions. Given these forecasts, the National Center of Meteorology emphasizes the importance of monitoring its daily reports and early warnings. Experts also advise staying away from floodplains, valleys, and low-lying areas, especially in exposed areas of the Eastern Province, to protect lives and property during the rainy period.
