Developing pilgrim rest areas: 36,000 square meters completed in the holy sites

The Royal Commission for Makkah and the Holy Sites’ executive arm, Kadana Development and Investment Company, affirmed its continued efforts to enhance the quality of services provided to pilgrims. In this context, the company announced the completion of the second phase of its project to develop pilgrim rest areas along pedestrian routes, as part of its strategic plans to enhance the spiritual experience and provide maximum comfort for pilgrims performing the Hajj rituals.
The historical context of the Kingdom's efforts in serving the pilgrims
Throughout history, the Hajj pilgrimage and facilitating the movement of millions of Muslims between the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat has been a top priority for the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the past, the journey on foot faced significant challenges due to harsh weather conditions and the mountainous terrain. With the development of infrastructure over the decades, the Kingdom has progressed from providing simple dirt paths to creating some of the longest shaded pedestrian walkways in the world. The development of these facilities today is a natural extension of this rich historical legacy, as relevant authorities continuously strive to integrate modern technologies with innovative engineering solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims during their journeys.
Details of the second phase of developing Hajj rest areas
Kadana explained that the second phase of the project included the preparation and development of a total area of 36,000 square meters. This vast area is in addition to the more than 30,000 square meters successfully completed in the first phase during the Hajj season of 1446 AH. These sites have been designed and equipped with integrated facilities that directly contribute to providing a comfortable and shaded environment, thus enhancing the comfort of pilgrims as they move between the holy sites and easing the hardship of their journey.
Modern facilities that meet immediate needs
The construction work in this vital project included the creation of well-designed and ergonomically engineered seating areas to accommodate large numbers of pedestrians, as well as the strategic placement of service kiosks to meet the immediate needs of pilgrims for water and light snacks. In addition, modern canopies equipped with advanced misting fans were installed to cool the air and reduce the high temperatures. To ensure pedestrian safety and minimize physical strain, advanced rubber flooring was used to absorb shocks and enhance the overall pilgrim experience.
Strategic dimensions and expected impact of the project
This project holds immense strategic importance at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, it enhances the efficiency of infrastructure in the Holy Sites and improves traffic flow and crowd management, thereby reducing the risks of stampedes and heat stress. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's continued investment in Hajj infrastructure projects reflects its unwavering commitment to serving Islam and Muslims, and sets a global example in managing massive crowds and providing comprehensive care for them.
Supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030
In conclusion, this achievement embodies the commitment of the Kadana Company to developing the infrastructure in the Holy Sites according to the highest international standards. It directly supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the "Guests of God Service Program," which aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the services provided, facilitate the hosting of increasing numbers of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims, and provide a more comfortable, seamless, and reassuring Hajj journey for all Muslims coming from around the world.
