Eastern Province weather: Orange alert and thunderstorms expected in Al-Ahsa and Abqaiq

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued a significant orange alert today regarding expected weather conditions in the Eastern Province, warning of severe weather fluctuations that could affect daily life and traffic in several governorates. The alert covers the governorates of Al-Ahsa, Al-Udayd, and Buqayq, as well as open areas and highways connecting these governorates.
The center explained in its report that the weather conditions include moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds that may stir up dust and sand, causing near-zero horizontal visibility. The report also indicated the possibility of hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, as well as thunderstorms and water accumulation in low-lying areas, necessitating caution.
The importance of warnings and safety measures
This orange alert comes as part of the authorities' commitment to the safety of citizens and residents. In the early warning system, the color orange signifies the need to prepare for potentially hazardous weather phenomena. These warnings are particularly important in the Eastern Province due to its geography and its network of vital highways that experience heavy traffic, where strong winds and rain can lead to vehicles skidding or a sudden decrease in visibility.
Under these conditions, the General Directorate of Civil Defense typically urges everyone to remain in safe locations during rainfall, to stay away from areas prone to flash floods, waterlogged areas, and valleys, and to refrain from swimming in them as these are unsuitable and extremely dangerous. Drivers are also advised to exercise extreme caution while driving on highways and open roads during the warning period.
The role of the National Center for Meteorology
The National Center for Meteorology works around the clock to monitor climate changes using the latest technologies and satellites, with the aim of providing accurate and timely information to the public and government agencies. These efforts are a fundamental part of the Kingdom's public safety system, as proactive warnings contribute to reducing material and human losses resulting from natural disasters and sudden weather changes.
It is worth noting that this warning will remain in effect and its expected impact will continue until 5:00 AM on Sunday. The center urges everyone to follow its official channels to get the latest updates on the weather situation.
