Details of domestic Hajj services for 1445: Shuttle transportation and upgraded tents

The Hajj season is witnessing rapid development in organization and technology, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focuses its efforts on improving services for both domestic and international pilgrims. As Dr. Saed Al-Juhani, Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Domestic Hajj Service Facilities (Mutahad), affirmed, this year's Hajj experience is a continuation of the Kingdom's ongoing development efforts, aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Guests of God Service Program.
Continuous development in domestic pilgrim services within the framework of Vision 2030
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken the honor of serving the pilgrims since its founding, and the Hajj journey has undergone radical transformations. From past decades relying on traditional transportation and simple tents, to the present era witnessing the transformation of the holy sites into integrated smart cities, the comfort of the pilgrim has remained the top priority. This rich historical legacy is now crowned by massive infrastructure projects aimed at facilitating the performance of the rituals and making it a safe and comfortable spiritual experience, which is clearly reflected in the quality of services provided to domestic pilgrims, which have become exemplary in organization and innovation.
The overall impact of developing the Hajj system locally and internationally
Elevating the level of services provided during the Hajj season has an impact not only locally but also serves as a global model. Locally, this development contributes to revitalizing the economy and creating thousands of seasonal and permanent jobs, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of the national workforce. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's success in managing millions of pilgrims within a limited geographical area and in record time reinforces its leading position as a premier authority in crowd management and crowd medicine, leaving a profound positive impact on Muslims worldwide and reflecting the enlightened image of Islam.
The Grand Hajj Symposium and its role in raising awareness
Dr. Al-Juhani emphasized that knowledge and awareness are the cornerstones of a successful Hajj system, especially given the large number of personnel who interact directly with pilgrims. In an extensive interview with Al-Youm newspaper on the sidelines of the Grand Hajj Symposium, he explained that the symposium represents a wealth of accumulated knowledge spanning nearly five decades and is one of the most important platforms for bringing together professionals to exchange experiences and discuss developments. He added, “We are living through a major transformation, and awareness is the foundation. These workers constitute about 20% of the number of pilgrims, and raising their awareness will automatically have a positive impact on the pilgrims themselves.”.
Key features of the services provided this year
The services provided are witnessing increasing maturity year after year. This season, approximately 140,000 pilgrims, both citizens and residents within the Kingdom, are being served through an integrated operational system encompassing transportation, accommodation, catering, awareness programs, and health and safety measures. Al-Juhani noted that the number of pilgrim service facilities has reached 177, operating according to eight strategic pillars aimed at improving and enriching the experience of the pilgrims and preparing the sector to adapt to modern trends.
Shuttle transportation and accommodation facilities in the holy sites
Among the most notable new initiatives this season is the implementation of shuttle services for domestic pilgrims for the first time. Between 12,000 and 13,000 pilgrims will benefit from this service, contributing to better traffic flow and reduced congestion. Regarding accommodation, a variety of options are available, including towers in Mina, upgraded tents, traditional tents, and European-style tents, all equipped with state-of-the-art air conditioning and amenities. The Arafat camps have also been exceptionally well-prepared, while Muzdalifah serves as a temporary rest stop with all essential services provided.
Strict control over catering and food safety
The catering sector receives significant attention, with a dedicated committee and a specialized team focused on quality and food safety. Proactive field visits are conducted to ensure the readiness of kitchens and the presence of qualified personnel at catering contractors. Thanks to these rigorous measures, no cases of food poisoning were recorded last season, and the council aims to maintain this success.
Important guidelines for dealing with high temperatures
Given the challenges posed by high temperatures, the council is focusing on educating pilgrims about the importance of drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding strenuous activity during peak hours, and remaining in their camps. They are also advised against carrying heavy luggage and to adhere to designated group times. On the Day of Arafah, the emphasis is on remaining within the camps and avoiding going to Mount Arafat to prevent exhaustion, in accordance with the Prophet's guidance: "I stood here, and all of Arafat is a place for standing." Designated prayer areas will be provided within the camps to ensure the comfort and safety of the pilgrims.
