620,000 visits to diabetes clinics: Women outnumber women in Saudi Arabia

The latest official statistics released by health clusters in Saudi Arabia reveal unprecedented figures reflecting the scale of efforts in the healthcare sector, with over 620,000 visits to diabetes clinics across the Kingdom. This significant surge in healthcare activity underscores the expanding reach of advanced medical services and simultaneously reflects a growing public awareness of the importance of regular monitoring of chronic diseases.
Historical development of care services in diabetes clinics
Historically, diabetes has been one of the most significant health challenges facing the medical system in the Kingdom and the Arab region in general, due to its close link with the rapid changes in lifestyles and dietary habits over the past decades. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the health sector has undergone a radical and institutional transformation aimed at enhancing quality of life and preventing chronic diseases. These efforts have resulted in the establishment of a broad network of integrated health clusters that have facilitated patients' access to specialized care, explaining the significant and organized demand for treatment and ongoing follow-up.
Growing health awareness: Women are taking center stage
Statistical data revealed a clear advantage for Saudi women in visiting specialized medical centers, with approximately 319,000 visits, compared to over 264,000 visits by Saudi men. This positive indicator reflects a growing health awareness among women regarding the importance of early detection and regular follow-up, and their pivotal role in promoting health culture within the family and society.
Geographical distribution of visitors in the regions of the Kingdom
In terms of geographical distribution, the Asir Health Cluster topped the list with the highest number of visits in the Kingdom, totaling over 107,000 visits. These visits were distributed between the main Asir cluster and the Bisha cluster, thus achieving first place in providing diabetes care services. The Makkah Health Cluster came in second place with a total of over 81,000 visits, including those in Makkah and Al-Qunfudhah, confirming its pivotal role in serving a large number of patients in the Western Region. The health clusters in the Riyadh region collectively ranked third, recording more than 71,000 treatment visits, distributed among the first, second, and third clusters in varying proportions to serve the residents of the capital.
The Qassim Health Cluster also recorded a remarkable presence, exceeding 56,000 visits, thus competing with major regions. In the south, the Jazan Health Cluster proved its effectiveness by receiving nearly 54,000 patients, while the Najran Health Cluster recorded more than 21,000 visits. The health clusters in Jeddah received more than 42,000 patients, strengthening the healthcare system in the western region. The Madinah Health Cluster recorded more than 27,000 visits, while the Eastern Province Health Cluster recorded approximately 25,000 visits, followed by the Hafr Al-Batin Health Cluster with about 12,000 visits. The remaining figures were distributed among the northern and other regions, with the Northern Borders region recording 19,000 visits, Al-Jawf 17,000, Tabuk 16,000, and Hail 13,000, confirming the comprehensiveness of the service across the entire country. Care was not limited to citizens but also included residents, with non-Saudi males recording approximately 21,000 visits, compared to more than 15,000 visits by non-Saudi females.
Strategic dimensions and expected impact of advanced healthcare
This massive volume of reviews is not merely a statistical figure; it carries profound implications and a significant impact on several levels. Locally, this commitment to medical follow-up contributes to reducing the rates of serious complications associated with diabetes, thus alleviating the economic burden on the healthcare system and improving individuals' quality of life. Regionally, these statistics position the Kingdom as a leading model in managing chronic diseases and implementing comprehensive preventive care programs. Internationally, the documentation and transparency of this data enhance Saudi Arabia's standing in global health indicators and underscore its commitment to achieving the World Health Organization's Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to combating non-communicable diseases and providing universal and equitable health coverage for all.
