Deputy Foreign Minister's meetings in Jeddah to support Somalia and enhance cooperation

The city of Jeddah witnessed intense diplomatic activity led by His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, dedicated to discussing developments in the Federal Republic of Somalia and supporting its sovereignty.
Context of the meeting and the leading Saudi role
This diplomatic activity comes within the framework of the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the host country of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the current chair of the Islamic Summit. The extraordinary meeting aims to formulate a unified Islamic position on the challenges facing Somalia, emphasizing the need to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This reflects the Kingdom's enduring commitment to supporting stability in the Horn of Africa and strengthening joint Islamic action.
Saudi-Qatari talks and Gulf coordination
Engineer Al-Khuraiji began his meetings with a meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. The meeting addressed the deep fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to strengthen them in various fields, in addition to coordinating positions on issues on the agenda of the Islamic meeting, in a manner that serves the interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the region.
Supporting the Palestinian cause and the situation in Gaza
In a related context concerning the central issues of the Islamic world, the Deputy Foreign Minister held an important meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Farsin Aghabekian Shahin. The tragic developments in the Gaza Strip topped the agenda, with a review of diplomatic efforts to halt the aggression and secure humanitarian corridors. Both sides reaffirmed the Kingdom's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Strengthening partnerships with Islamic countries
The series of meetings also included discussions with a number of foreign ministers from influential Islamic countries, where His Excellency met with:
- Pakistan: He met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, to discuss the strategic partnership between the two countries and regional security developments.
- Bangladesh: He held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Tohid Hossain, to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations and cooperation in international forums.
- Gambia: He met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Serigne Modou Njie, to discuss issues of common interest.
- Libya: He met with the Libyan Foreign Minister-designate, Taher Baour, to review fraternal relations and exchange views on stability in North Africa.
The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs branch in the Makkah region, Farid bin Saad Al-Shehri, attended these meetings, reflecting the great interest that the Ministry attaches to the success of these diplomatic events.
