The Minister of Defense inaugurates the World Defense Show 2026 and launches industry localization projects

On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God protect him, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Military Industries, inaugurated the third edition of the World Defense Show in Riyadh. This global event, organized by the General Authority for Military Industries, is a pivotal platform that brings together defense leaders and decision-makers from around the world, and its activities will continue until February 12.
Strategic dimensions and objectives of Vision 2030
The World Defence Exhibition is more than just a showcase for military equipment; it is a practical embodiment of the significant transformation underway in Saudi Arabia's defense sector. Its strategic importance stems from its role as a key driver in achieving the goals of Vision 2030, which aims to localize more than 50% of government military spending. The exhibition provides an ideal environment for exchanging expertise and transferring technology, thereby strengthening local manufacturing capabilities and creating promising opportunities for Saudi nationals in this vital sector.
Extensive international presence and the launch of high-quality projects
The third edition of the exhibition witnessed record participation, with more than 1,486 exhibitors representing 89 countries, in addition to major national and international companies and government entities. His Royal Highness the Minister of Defense began his tour by viewing the opening visual presentations and live aerial displays showcasing the latest defense capabilities. Reflecting the accelerated pace of localization, His Royal Highness inaugurated several major projects during his visit to the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) pavilion. These included SAMI Ground Systems Company, the SAMI Ground Systems Industrial Complex, and the HEET armored vehicle project – steps that represent a qualitative leap in the Kingdom's industrial capabilities.
Defense diplomacy and strengthening partnerships
On the sidelines of the exhibition, Prince Khalid bin Salman held a series of intensive meetings with defense ministers and senior officials from brotherly and friendly nations. His Highness expressed his satisfaction with these meetings via his official account on the "X" platform, noting that they included discussions on the future of the defense and security industry and a review of the promising opportunities offered by the exhibition. His Highness also witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening international cooperation and developing the defense and security system, thus underscoring the Kingdom's growing role as a global hub for the defense industry.
