The dangers of mixing pesticides and a guide to safe home gardening

With the growing global and local interest in the concept of "home gardening" as part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, new challenges have emerged concerning the safety of gardening practices among hobbyists. In this context, home gardening expert Asad Al-Nimr issued strong warnings about the increasing phenomenon of "personal interpretations" in the handling of chemical compounds, describing it as a ticking time bomb that threatens both public health and the plant environment.
The risks of chemical experiments and their health effects
Al-Nimr warned against the harmful practices of some amateurs who mix pesticides and chemical fertilizers without any scientific basis. He emphasized that these practices not only "kill trees" through poisoning and chemical burns, but also pose a direct threat to human health, especially through inhalation of fumes produced by uncontrolled reactions or skin contact with the substances.
Scientific facts indicate that the indiscriminate use of pesticides contributes to soil and groundwater pollution, giving these warnings an environmental dimension that goes beyond the home garden, and emphasizing the need to handle agricultural materials with extreme caution and under the supervision of specialists.
The golden season for agriculture: timing and preparation
The expert explained that the period from mid-October to May represents the "golden season" for planting in the region, as moderate temperatures enhance the chances of successful planting. He pointed out that the current overcrowding in nurseries is due to October and November being the most climatically suitable months for planting seedlings, necessitating well-considered steps to ensure healthy growth.
A roadmap for successful farming
To ensure a safe and fruitful agricultural experience, “Al-Nimr” developed a scientific protocol that includes the following steps:
- Site and soil selection: Start by choosing a sunny location, and prepare the soil in advance by continuously moistening it to allow organic fertilizers to decompose and cool, and avoid “transplant shock” by keeping the soil firm around the roots.
- Irrigation strategy: Avoid randomness, commit to daily irrigation for the first ten days, then move to manual inspection (depth 3 cm) and irrigation every two days in line with the cold weather.
- Scientific fertilization: Postpone fertilization for one to one and a half months after planting, then start with "high phosphorus" fertilizers to strengthen the roots, followed by attention to vegetative growth and protection from insects.
Winter service and care for fruit trees
Al-Nimr reviewed the "winter service" plan, which begins at the start of January and includes the application of cow manure and pruning. He specifically advised fruit tree owners to use calcium boron to stabilize flowering and high-potassium compounds to improve fruit quality. He concluded by emphasizing that consulting specialists is the only way to avoid financial and health losses.
