Rain in Medina: Red alert and today's weather forecast

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued a red alert for the Madinah region, warning of unstable weather conditions characterized by heavy rainfall on Sunday. The center explained that these conditions would continue until 11:00 PM, urging citizens and residents in the area to exercise caution.
According to the weather report, the current weather conditions in Medina are not limited to rainfall alone, but are accompanied by several other weather phenomena, including high-speed winds that may lead to reduced horizontal visibility, hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, and thunderstorms. These warnings are issued as part of the authorities' commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
Weather forecast for Mecca and other regions
In a related development concerning the prevailing weather conditions, the National Center for Meteorology issued another alert for the Holy City of Mecca, forecasting light rain that is expected to continue until 7:00 PM this Sunday. This variation in rainfall intensity across different regions reflects the nature of the weather fluctuations the Kingdom is experiencing during this transitional period of the year.
Nationally, today's weather forecast indicates continued chances of heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds that will stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility across large parts of the Kingdom. These forecasts include the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions, extending to parts of the Hail region and the northern parts of the Makkah region, as well as Madinah.
The importance of early warning systems and dealing with floods
The “red alert” is of paramount importance in the National Center for Meteorology’s automated early warning system, signifying the need for immediate precautionary measures and evacuation from hazardous areas. The Madinah region, with its geographical features including numerous large valleys such as Wadi Al-Aqiq and Wadi Qanat, requires heightened caution during heavy rainfall due to the rapid flow of flash floods.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense always emphasizes, in such circumstances, the necessity of remaining in safe locations and staying away from valleys, flood channels, and water accumulations, and not risking crossing valleys while they are flowing. These rains are part of the rainy season, which contributes to replenishing groundwater; however, their intensity over short periods can put pressure on infrastructure and drainage systems, highlighting the importance of adhering to official instructions.
These continuous updates from the National Center for Meteorology reflect the great development in weather monitoring mechanisms in the Kingdom, and its ability to predict strong weather conditions before they occur, which effectively contributes to crisis management and reducing potential risks resulting from severe weather fluctuations.
