5G network coverage of the Holy Sites is now 100% complete

In a move reflecting the significant technological advancements in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossari announced on Wednesday the completion of 5G network coverage in the Holy Sites , achieving 100% coverage. This accomplishment is part of ongoing efforts to provide the best possible services to pilgrims and facilitate their performance of Hajj rituals with ease and convenience, in line with the aspirations of the wise leadership.

The development of digital services and the coverage of holy sites with a 5G network

Historically, the Hajj pilgrimage has witnessed tremendous developments in infrastructure and communications. In past decades, communications posed a significant challenge due to the millions of pilgrims gathering in a limited geographical area within a short timeframe. With the launch of Vision 2030, the Saudi government prioritized digital transformation. These efforts have yielded remarkable progress, culminating today in the announcement of the completion of 5G network coverage in the Holy Sites. This ensures ultra-fast data transfer, enabling pilgrims to communicate seamlessly with their families around the world, and providing a comprehensive digital environment that serves all sectors.

The local and international impact of digital transformation in Hajj

The impact of this technological achievement extends far beyond the local level, encompassing crucial regional and international dimensions. Locally, these modern technologies enhance crowd management and facilitate the work of security and health authorities, enabling them to provide a swift and effective response to any emergency. Internationally, the provision of a sophisticated digital infrastructure reflects the Kingdom's leadership, a fact underscored by the Minister of Media's highlighting Saudi Arabia's ranking first globally in the Digital Readiness Index. This excellence allows international media outlets to broadcast the Hajj rituals with high accuracy and quality to millions of Muslims worldwide.

Makkah Route Initiative and Hosting Guests of God

In a related context, the Minister of Information explained that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has completed all preparations to host more than 2,500 pilgrims, including families of martyrs and scholars, arriving from over 100 countries. During the government press conference, the "Makkah Route Initiative," being implemented for the eighth time through 17 entry points in 10 different countries, was highlighted. This initiative is one of the Ministry of Interior's most prominent initiatives to serve pilgrims, having benefited more than 1.2 million pilgrims since its launch. This reflects the Kingdom's commitment to managing the Hajj pilgrimage system securely and organizationally, utilizing plans based on the latest technologies.

Hajj Media Forum and Integration of Government Efforts

To ensure media coverage befitting this great Islamic event, the Minister of Media added that the third edition of the Hajj Media Forum will be held this year in Mecca. He explained that 2,400 technical personnel are working around the clock in the holy sites to guarantee the stability of networks and services. The Hajj season also sees the participation of more than 150 media outlets, represented by over 3,000 journalists covering the event moment by moment. The government press conference hosted the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah; the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Majid Al-Hogail; the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser; the Minister of Health, Fahd Al-Jalajel; and the Minister of Media, to review the most prominent preparations and arrangements for the 1447 AH Hajj season, emphasizing the integration of all sectors to serve the pilgrims.
