The Civil Status Agency of the Ministry of Interior in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the comprehensive timetable for the working hours of its offices during the holy month of Ramadan, in order to facilitate the work of citizens and residents wishing to complete their government transactions, in accordance with the spirit of the holy month and to ensure the continued provision of services with high efficiency.
Civil Status Department working hours details for Ramadan
The agency clarified that receiving beneficiaries at civil status offices across the Kingdom will be done according to a flexible schedule covering two periods, for those who have booked appointments in advance through the Ministry of Interior's electronic platform "Absher". This arrangement comes as part of the ministry's commitment to organizing the flow of visitors and reducing waiting times.
Morning and evening periods
The Civil Status Department has set the official working hours as follows:
- Morning period: It starts from Sunday until Thursday, where the offices open their doors from ten o'clock in the morning (10:00 am) until three o'clock in the afternoon (3:00 pm).
- Evening period: An evening period has been allocated in a number of selected offices to meet the needs of those whose circumstances do not allow them to visit in the morning, where work begins at nine o'clock in the evening (9:00 pm) and continues until one o'clock in the morning (1:00 am).
Electronic services and digital transformation
In a related context, the Civil Status Department urged all beneficiaries to maximize their use of the electronic services available through the "Absher" platform, which aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals for digital transformation and streamlining government procedures. The department emphasized that citizens and residents can complete numerous transactions and renew documents without needing to visit government offices in person.
She also stressed the possibility of requesting delivery of official documents (such as national ID or family record) directly to the beneficiary’s national address via Saudi Post, which saves time and effort and reduces congestion in government offices during the days of fasting.
Government work context during Ramadan
It is customary in Saudi Arabia to reduce working hours in the government sector during the holy month of Ramadan, in consideration of those fasting and to enable employees and visitors to perform their religious duties. This annual arrangement is part of the flexible administrative policies adopted by the state, where the reduced hours are compensated for by activating digital services around the clock, thus ensuring that people's interests are not disrupted.
This announcement is of particular importance given that civil status services directly affect the daily lives of citizens, from registering births and renewing IDs to issuing family records, making it essential to know the exact dates to avoid any delays in official transactions.
