Buqayq Municipality successfully addressed the effects of the rains and removed 135,000 gallons of water

In a swift and effective response to the weather fluctuations affecting the Eastern Province, the municipality of Buqayq Governorate implementing its comprehensive field plan to address the effects of the rainfall that impacted the governorate and its affiliated centers. These intensive efforts are part of the municipality's commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow and protecting lives and property, in accordance with its approved emergency plans for the rainy season.
Field mobilization and record numbers
The governorate of Buqayq experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, reaching approximately 20 mm, which necessitated immediate intervention from field teams. The mayor of Buqayq, Engineer Mohammed bin Aftan Al-Dhafeeri, explained that the municipality successfully managed the situation with high efficiency by mobilizing all its material and human resources. More than 26 pieces of specialized equipment and machinery , supported by the efforts of 160 personnel with diverse specializations, including engineers, technicians, and field workers, who worked around the clock to contain the water accumulations.
These efforts resulted in the removal of approximately 135,000 gallons of rainwater, the operation of 3 collection tanks with a total capacity of 9,000 gallons, in addition to the immediate handling of 45 reports received by the operations center, reflecting the speed of response and the effectiveness of coordination between the different teams.

These projects are of particular importance in light of the climate changes affecting various regions of the Kingdom, as proactive preparedness for the rainy season is a cornerstone of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing's strategies. Municipalities, including Buqayq Municipality, are working to enhance infrastructure and stormwater drainage networks to ensure the sustainability of municipal services and improve the quality of life for citizens and residents. These proactive efforts contribute to reducing the environmental and traffic risks that can result from water accumulation on main roads and within residential areas.

The municipality's efforts were not limited to draining the water, but also included implementing a package of preventive measures, including:
- Cleaning and disinfecting rainwater drainage networks to ensure their efficiency.
- Removing obstacles and impurities that may hinder the flow of water in the designated channels.
- Deployment of field teams to critical support points and locations most vulnerable to water accumulation.
In parallel with the field work, the municipality activated the awareness aspect through its digital platforms, where it broadcast guidance messages and continuous updates about the rain situation, calling on citizens to be cautious and vigilant.

The Municipality of Buqayq confirmed that it continues to monitor weather developments in coordination with relevant authorities, and renewed its call for everyone to cooperate and report any water accumulations or emergency observations through the unified 940 , which operates around the clock to receive observations and direct specialized teams to address them immediately, thus embodying the effective community partnership between the municipality and the residents.
