Launch of the Windows Initiative to improve the quality of education in Saudi Arabia

In a strategic move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to developing its education sector, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission launched the Nawafith initiative (Education and Training Status Room). This pioneering initiative aims to empower educational leaders to analyze field performance through accurate and comprehensive data, directly contributing to raising the quality of educational outcomes in the Kingdom and guiding educational policies toward a more effective path.

Digital transformation in education: The strategic context for launching the Windows initiative

is The Nawafeth initiative the culmination of ongoing efforts within the digital transformation journey that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing across various sectors, most notably the education sector. Historically, educational performance evaluation has relied on general indicators that may not accurately reflect the reality on the ground. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the urgent need arose to establish an evaluation system based on Big Data to ensure transparency and objectivity. In this context, the Deputy Minister of Education for General Education, Dr. Saad Al-Harbi, emphasized during the launch ceremony the imperative of basing educational decisions on accurate data and objective evaluation, stressing the necessity of leveraging available data and translating it into tangible, practical measures that enhance learning outcomes.

Huge numbers and a database to support decision-making

The Deputy Minister commended the Authority's efforts in developing the education system, praising the efficiency of the national tests and the first cycle of the school assessment. For his part, the President of the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, Dr. Waleed bin Mohammed Al-Saleh, revealed that this step represents an advanced stage of the "Case Room," which was launched at the beginning of 2025. Al-Saleh explained that the Room is based on a massive database exceeding 23 billion data points and more than 3.5 billion digital values to support strategic decision-making. He added that the platform provides more than 300 interactive dashboards and over 3,000 analytical elements to serve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Expected impact: From bridging local gaps to global competitiveness

The impact of this new digital transformation extends beyond simply providing each educational administration with an independent perspective; it encompasses deeper dimensions at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, the system empowers educational administrations to immediately access and analyze their performance from their own locations, enabling them to pinpoint educational gaps with exceptional accuracy and formulate improvement plans and educational interventions grounded in real-world data and transparency. Furthermore, the initiative creates added value by standardizing performance analysis, addressing data fragmentation, and empowering stakeholders with in-depth analyses that support institutional integration.

At the regional and international levels, the automated updating of indicators enhances proactive planning and spending efficiency, fostering a globally competitive and prepared Saudi human capital. Relying on these precise analyses will inevitably improve the Kingdom's ranking in international educational indicators and global benchmark tests, making the Saudi experience a model to be emulated in the Middle East in the field of education governance and evaluation based on digital evidence.
