Jeddah Municipality shuts down unlicensed bakery in Dhahban: Inspection campaign

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance municipal oversight and ensure food safety for residents, inspection teams from the Jeddah Governorate Municipality closed an unlicensed bakery in the Dhahban sub-municipality. This action is part of a series of intensive field campaigns aimed at eliminating negative practices and preventing health violations that could threaten consumer safety.
Details of site inspection and observed violations
The municipality clarified that field teams from Dhahban Municipality, under the supervision of Mayor Abdullah Mubarak, discovered an illegal site—a makeshift yard—being used as a bakery for preparing and distributing baked goods without the necessary permits. The inspection revealed several serious violations, most notably the employment of workers without health certificates proving they were free of contagious diseases, a clear breach of municipal and health regulations.
The campaign resulted in the confiscation and destruction of 102 kilograms of food and baked goods that were found to be unfit for human consumption. The municipal penalties and fines regulations were applied to the violators, and the site was immediately closed.
Strategy for improving the urban landscape and combating slums
is not The closure of an unlicensed bakery an isolated incident, but rather part of a broader effort by the Jeddah Municipality and other relevant authorities across the Kingdom to improve the urban landscape and enhance the quality of life. Historically, major cities have faced challenges related to the uncontrolled growth of commercial activities within residential neighborhoods or in unsuitable rest areas and courtyards, necessitating the implementation of strict strategies to curb these practices.
The municipality operates according to well-defined plans aligned with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which focuses on humanizing cities and creating a safe and healthy environment. These efforts include monitoring clandestine businesses operating outside the purview of regulatory oversight. These haphazard developments mar the city's appearance and present a regulatory challenge that municipalities are striving to address comprehensively to ensure a regulated and competitive business environment.
The importance of food security and consumer protection
These campaigns are of paramount importance, extending far beyond the local boundaries of Dhahban Municipality, as food security and product safety are top national priorities. The existence of unlicensed facilities lacking even the most basic hygiene and sanitation standards poses a serious health risk, as they can be a source of food poisoning and the spread of disease due to the absence of oversight of raw materials and improper storage.
The continuation of these inspection campaigns is expected to enhance consumer confidence in licensed food establishments and deter anyone tempted to compromise public health for quick profit. The municipality also emphasizes that the awareness of citizens and residents and their role in reporting violations through official channels is a cornerstone of the success of these inspection efforts, ultimately leading to a violation-free environment.
