Board of Grievances: Employing artificial intelligence in administrative justice

In a significant step reflecting the rapid development of the judicial system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Yousef, President of the Board of Grievances and Chairman of the Administrative Judiciary Council, announced the Board's official entry into the third phase of its strategic plan, themed "Innovation and Artificial Intelligence." This announcement was made during the "Leadership" ceremony held in Diriyah, the birthplace of the Saudi state, to showcase achievements in digital transformation and corporate governance.
The journey of digital transformation and keeping pace with Vision 2030
This transformation was not a sudden occurrence, but rather the culmination of a systematic strategic journey aligned with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in digitizing government services and enhancing performance efficiency. Dr. Al-Yousef explained that the strategy underwent meticulous foundational stages, beginning with the "Institutional Change and Development" phase, progressing through the "Maturity, Empowerment, and Quality" phases, and culminating in the current phase, which is entirely based on innovation and institutional intelligence. This transformation is an integral part of the comprehensive development drive underway in the Kingdom, as the administrative judiciary strives to become a global model in the speed of its proceedings and the accuracy of its rulings.
Artificial intelligence: the future of administrative justice
In the context of leveraging technology to serve justice, the President of the Board of Grievances unveiled ambitious and unprecedented plans to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into the core of judicial work. These plans include using advanced algorithms to assist in drafting and writing judicial rulings, thereby expediting litigation and reducing human error. Furthermore, these technologies will be employed in big data analysis to predict developmental and investment indicators, thus strengthening the judiciary's role in supporting the national economy and making decisions based on accurate data rather than subjective interpretations.
Activating “administrative implementation” and enhancing the investment environment
Dr. Al-Yousef emphasized the paramount importance of the “Administrative Enforcement” project, launched under the direct guidance of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. This project is a cornerstone in strengthening the prestige of the judiciary, as it ensures the enforcement of judgments issued against administrative bodies, thereby reinforcing the principles of transparency and swift justice. This development has direct positive repercussions on the Kingdom’s investment climate, as it instills greater confidence in the judicial system and its ability to protect rights and enforce contracts among local and international investors, thus contributing to attracting more foreign investment.
Global leadership and well-deserved awards
The ceremony concluded with a presentation of statistics reflecting the efforts made, with Al-Yousef noting that the Board of Grievances had received 28 local and international accreditations and awards during the past period. These awards are tangible proof of the Board's success in implementing the highest standards of quality and institutional excellence, and its tireless pursuit of competing with comparable judicial systems globally, all while striving to provide leading judicial services befitting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's stature.
