Araghchi warns of a ground invasion, and Trump announces the destruction of Iran's capabilities

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi asserted that his country is fully prepared to confront all potential military scenarios, including a possible ground invasion, warning that such a move would bring certain “catastrophe” upon the enemies of the Islamic Republic. These fiery remarks come at a time of heightened political and military tension in the region, amid an exchange of threats between Tehran and Washington.
Speaking to NBC News, Araqchi emphasized that Iranian forces are not afraid of direct confrontation, saying, “We are prepared for any eventuality, even a ground invasion.” Commenting on reports of US moves to support opposition factions, he added, “We are waiting for them, and we are certain of our ability to confront them. It will be a disaster for them.”.
The context of the historical tension between Washington and Tehran
These statements cannot be separated from the long historical context of the conflict between the United States and Iran, which has spanned decades since 1979. Waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's missile program have long been key points of contention that concern the international community. Although Araqchi indicated that his country has no intention of closing the Strait of Hormuz at this stage, the threat of military options reflects the depth of the crisis of confidence between the two sides. Washington consistently seeks to limit Iranian influence in the Middle East, while Tehran considers its military capabilities the sole guarantee of its survival.
Trump: We destroyed Iran's missile capabilities
In response, US President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric, calling on members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, army, and police to lay down their arms and surrender. In an interview with ABC News, Trump promised immunity to those who heeded this call and urged Iranian diplomats around the world to seek asylum.
Trump indicated that the American strikes were extremely painful, claiming they set Iran back “10 years.” He added confidently, “No one will be able to threaten America. We have the greatest military force in the world, and we had no choice but to strike Iran.” Trump then revealed operational details, saying, “We are destroying Iran faster than the planned schedule. We have destroyed more than 22 Iranian naval vessels, and we are now destroying Iran’s missile capabilities. We have destroyed 58% of Iran’s missile launch sites.”.
The repercussions of a ground invasion on regional and international security
These mutual threats are of paramount importance given their direct impact on international peace and security. Any move toward a ground invasion or expansion of the conflict would not only have repercussions within Iran but would extend to the entire region. Domestically, this could lead to radical changes in the political and military structure, while regionally, neighboring countries and global energy routes would be caught in the crossfire, threatening a dramatic surge in oil prices and disruption to global supply chains.
Trump concluded his remarks by emphasizing his determination to end what he described as the Iranian threat first, noting that dealing with other issues such as Cuba is just a “matter of time,” thus illustrating the American strategy based on rapid military resolution and dismantling the defensive capabilities of adversaries.
