Conference on Arabic Language and Applied Sciences: A Leading Technological Integration

The Islamic University of Madinah is preparing to launch a prominent scientific event that combines linguistic authenticity with technological advancement. It will host an international conference entitled “Arabic Language and Applied Sciences: Empowerment and Integration.” This conference, held in strategic partnership with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, will take place on Sunday and Monday, the 16th and 17th of Dhu al-Qi'dah 1447 AH (corresponding to May 3rd and 4th, 2026 CE) at the King Salman International Conference Center. Its aim is to formulate a new vision that integrates the Arabic language into the fields of modern technology and the exact sciences.
Historical roots and Saudi efforts in serving the Arabic language
The Arabic language has always been a vessel for civilization and the humanities and applied sciences throughout history. During the Abbasid and Andalusian eras, Arabic was the official language of medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and physics. Today, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its ambitious Vision 2030, seeks to revive and modernize this leading role to align with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This fruitful collaboration between the Islamic University and the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language represents a natural extension of the Kingdom's historical and ongoing efforts to support Arab and Islamic cultural identity and translate it from the realm of theoretical studies into contemporary practical and technological applications.
The importance of the Arabic Language and Applied Sciences Conference and its expected impact
This event is of paramount importance at the local, regional, and international levels, as it seeks to bridge the knowledge gap between literary and technical disciplines. Locally, the conference contributes to supporting national strategies for digital transformation and the localization of knowledge in Arabic. Regionally and internationally, the conference opens new horizons for cooperation between universities and global research centers to enhance the presence of Arabic in artificial intelligence systems and computational linguistics. With the participation of a select group of researchers and specialists from more than 15 countries, along with representatives of scientific, linguistic, and academic institutions from around the world, the conference is expected to establish a new phase of digital empowerment for the Arabic language in international scientific circles.
Strategic goals to promote Arabic language computing
The conference aims to achieve a set of strategic objectives that contribute to empowering the Arabic language in scientific fields. Among the most prominent of these objectives is supporting the goals of Vision 2030 in promoting the Arabic language and highlighting the Islamic University's efforts in this regard. It also aims to review successful experiences in teaching applied sciences in Arabic, gather the opinions of experts, language academies, and international educational institutions, propose scientific mechanisms for integrating linguistic and applied disciplines, and develop digital Arabic language resources and enhance their use in artificial intelligence technologies.
Key themes that chart the roadmap for the digital future
The conference participants will discuss four key themes that form a fundamental pillar of digital linguistic transformation:
- Highlighting the efforts made to promote digital content for the Arabic language.
- Artificial intelligence and its recent contributions to Arabic language sciences and literature.
- Opportunities and fields available in interdisciplinary studies between Arabic language and applied sciences.
- Visions and practical experiences in the Arabization of various applied sciences.
Specialized training programs for building language skills
In addition to the dialogue sessions and the accompanying exhibition, the conference includes two advanced training courses aimed at qualifying human resources and developing their linguistic and technical skills:
- The first course, entitled “Linguistic Models and Their Construction Mechanisms,” is dedicated to faculty members and is presented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Harbi, Director of the Lexicography Department at the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language.
- The second course, entitled “Statistical Methods for Extracting Lexical Units,” is aimed at students and researchers and is presented by Dr. Yahya Al-Latini, Director of the Linguistic Lexicography Department at the Academy.
