The "A Hand Plants in Al-Rams" initiative supports green Saudi Arabia with 100 seedlings

In a move reflecting a community and institutional commitment to environmental preservation, the Al-Rams project in central Awamiyah, in strategic partnership with the Qatif Governorate Municipality and the local branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, launched a unique tree-planting initiative, "A Hand Plants, and the Land Blossoms." The event saw the planting of 100 diverse saplings within the project's grounds, with broad participation from volunteers and environmental activists, serving as the foundation for future green projects.

An extension of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030

This event is an integral part of the national efforts aimed at achieving the objectives of the "Saudi Green Initiative" launched by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This major national initiative aims to combat desertification, increase vegetation cover, and reduce carbon emissions, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life and protecting future generations. The Al-Rams project, as a cultural and heritage destination in the Eastern Province, is an ideal platform for activating these initiatives and connecting the local community with these major national goals.

Strategic partnership to enhance quality of life

The director of the Al-Rams project, Mohammed Al-Turki, confirmed that this campaign represents the first in a series of sustainable environmental initiatives that will not be confined to the project's boundaries but will extend to several vital locations in the Qatif Governorate. Al-Turki pointed out that close cooperation with government sectors, represented by the municipality and the Ministry of Environment, is the cornerstone of the success of these efforts, and he expressed his gratitude to the media partners who contribute to raising environmental awareness.

For his part, the Deputy Mayor of Qatif Governorate for Services, Ali Al-Matroud, explained that this initiative is at the heart of the municipality’s strategy to raise the “quality of life” and humanize cities, stressing the importance of partnership with the private sector to consolidate the concepts of environmental sustainability.

Focus on native and sustainable trees

In the context of the initiative's technical and agricultural standards, environmental and agricultural activist Reda Mahdi Al-Khunaizi explained that the selection of seedlings was not arbitrary, but rather based on studies of the region's nature and climate. The campaign focused on planting fruit trees and shade trees such as mulberry, jujube, hollyhock, and ficus.

Al-Khunaizi pointed out that the future direction relies on strengthening the region's agricultural identity by cultivating native trees such as the jujube, Indian almond, and fig. These species are distinguished by their high tolerance to soil salinity and high temperatures, as well as their water efficiency, as they can self-rely on growth after the first year of planting, thus ensuring the sustainability of the green cover with minimal maintenance costs.
