SAR announces the readiness of the Holy Sites train for the Hajj season

Saudi Railways (SAR) announced the completion of full operational readiness for the Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah Metroand the commencement of services for pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season. This strategic step reflects the national system's preparedness to provide safe and reliable transportation for the pilgrims. SAR finalized its readiness through continuous coordination and integration with various relevant authorities, most notably security and service agencies. To ensure the highest safety standards, the company conducted three comprehensive simulation exercises accurately replicating Hajj season conditions. These exercises aimed to test systems, trains, and stations, enhance operational efficiency, and guarantee a safe and efficient start to the season.
A rich history of serving the guests of God
The Holy Sites Metro project is one of the most vital projects implemented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims. It was first launched in 2010 (1431 AH) with the aim of revolutionizing the movement of pilgrims and alleviating the severe traffic congestion that had plagued the holy sites in previous decades. Since its inception, the metro has served as a vital artery connecting the three holy sites of Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina, replacing thousands of buses. This has directly contributed to reducing carbon emissions and preserving the environment of the holy sites, making it a global model for crowd management and sustainable public transportation.
A precise operational system for the Holy Sites train journeys
The train operates according to five different operational movements, meticulously designed to align with the pilgrim movement patterns between the holy sites based on their specific rituals. It is a cornerstone of pilgrim transportation within the holy sites, operating over 2,000 trips during the Hajj season to transport more than two million passengers. These operations are conducted within a precise operational system that contributes to highly efficient crowd management. SAR has completed maintenance and rigorous testing of all project facilities and its nine stations, distributed across the holy sites of Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina, culminating at the final station in Mina on the fourth level of the Jamarat Bridge, thus enhancing the smooth flow and safety of pilgrims.
Strategic impact and facilitating the Hajj pilgrimage globally
The importance of this project extends beyond the local level, impacting regionally and internationally by showcasing the Kingdom's distinguished efforts in serving Muslims from all corners of the earth. The train facilitates the efficient movement of pilgrims with a fleet of 17 trains, each with a capacity of up to 3,000 passengers, and a total transport capacity exceeding 72,000 passengers per hour. This operational efficiency reduces congestion and enhances safety, positively impacting the spiritual experience of the pilgrims. This initiative is part of a comprehensive system supporting the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Pilgrims Service Program.
Integration of services with the Haramain High-Speed Railway
It is worth noting that the operation and maintenance of the train were entrusted to the Saudi Railways Company (SAR) by Cabinet Resolution No. 538 of 1440 AH, with the aim of enhancing service quality. In a related context, SAR had previously announced its operational plan for the Haramain High-Speed Railway during the 1447 AH Hajj season, which included providing more than 2.21 million seats through the operation of over 5,300 trips. The Haramain High-Speed Railway extends for approximately 453 kilometers and is one of the fastest trains in the world, reaching speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. It completes the link between Makkah and Madinah, providing an exceptional transportation experience for pilgrims.
