Al-Lahabah Municipality's efforts: 2,303 tons of waste removed in 3 months

In a move reflecting its ongoing commitment to environmental protection and infrastructure development, the Al-Lahabah Municipality's field efforts over the past three months have resulted in a significant environmental achievement: the removal of over 2,303 tons of waste and debris from various sites. This strategic initiative is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing environmental sanitation and improving the urban landscape in its districts and neighborhoods, positively impacting the daily lives of residents.
The general context of environmental sanitation initiatives in the Kingdom
These local achievements cannot be separated from the broader context of the environmental transformations taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the wise leadership has placed environmental protection and sustainability at the heart of its development plans. The Quality of Life Program is one of the Vision's most prominent implementation programs, directly aimed at improving the urban landscape in Saudi cities and provinces and raising the level of municipal services provided to citizens and residents alike.
In this context, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing launched extensive national campaigns to address visual pollution across all regions of the Kingdom. The cleaning and debris removal operations carried out by sub-municipalities fall under this comprehensive vision, as relevant authorities strive to implement the highest international standards in solid waste management and safe disposal, thereby contributing to reducing carbon emissions and preserving natural resources for future generations.
Details of field campaigns and geographical scope
The mayor of Al-Lahabah, Engineer Fawaz Al-Amoudi, explained that the exceptional campaigns that were implemented targeted a wide and carefully planned geographical area. These campaigns included main streets, densely populated residential neighborhoods, and public parks, which serve as vital recreational spaces for residents. The efforts were not limited to populated areas but extended to cover open spaces in the city and its surrounding areas, according to a strict daily operational plan to address all forms of visual pollution.
Engineer Al-Amoudi revealed, using statistics, the success of the field teams in professionally removing more than 2,285 tons of accumulated household and solid waste. The field work also resulted in the removal of approximately 18 tons of rubble and unidentified debris. In addition, vacant lots were cleaned and leveled, and routine maintenance of waste containers continued, with scheduled emptying and cleaning to ensure the highest levels of environmental sanitation.
Expected impact of Al-Lahabah Municipality's efforts on society and the environment
These intensive campaigns are of paramount importance and have a positive impact on several levels. At the local level, the continuous removal of waste helps reduce the spread of epidemics and diseases and eliminates breeding grounds for insects and rodents, thus ensuring a healthy and safe environment for families and children. Furthermore, improving the city's overall appearance fosters a sense of belonging and satisfaction among residents and encourages outdoor activities in a clean environment.
At the regional level, the municipalities' commitment to implementing high hygiene standards contributes to raising the environmental performance indicators of the Eastern Province as a whole. This noticeable improvement in environmental infrastructure plays a vital role in attracting local investments and stimulating domestic trade and tourism, as public cleanliness and urban planning are among the most important factors attracting visitors and investors.
Strengthening community partnerships to ensure sustainability
To ensure the sustainability of these gains, the mayor affirmed that the monitoring teams will continue implementing their plan to improve the urban environment, without any leniency in monitoring and addressing any emerging visual pollution. He extended an open invitation to the community to strengthen its active partnership by committing to disposing of waste in designated areas. He also emphasized the importance of immediately reporting any environmental violations through the unified reporting center “940”, stressing that community awareness is the cornerstone of maintaining a healthy, safe, and prosperous environment for all.
