The World Robot Olympiad qualifiers conclude in Al-Ahsa
Al-Ahsa Governorate witnessed an exceptional technological event, as the Al-Ahsa Technical College hosted the preliminary rounds of the “RoboRAVE” championship, part of the global robotics competition for the Eastern Province. More than 110 male and female contestants representing 36 teams from various educational levels participated in these competitions, striving to qualify for the national finals to be held in Riyadh, and subsequently represent the Kingdom internationally in global events.
Pioneering goals set by the World Robot Competition
These prestigious technical competitions were organized through a strategic partnership between the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, the Saudi Federation for Robotics and Wireless Sports, and the AI Arena Academy, with the aim of fostering a culture of innovation and developing the skills of the next generation. Fifteen expert judges evaluated the participants across six diverse competitive tracks, targeting four educational levels: elementary, intermediate, secondary, and university.

The RoboRAVE Championship is one of the most prominent international competitions in the field of educational robotics since its founding in 2001 in the United States. The championship's philosophy is based on the principle of "learning by doing," offering a comprehensive system of technical and engineering challenges, including speed challenges, line following, mazes, sumo wrestling, and robot soccer. These tracks contribute to developing the programming and creative skills of participants in a stimulating competitive environment, helping to discover technical talent and guide it towards promising scientific disciplines.
Impact of the event on the local and international scenes
This event is of paramount importance and has a tangible positive impact on several levels. Locally, it contributes to raising awareness among students about the importance of artificial intelligence and robotics, and supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a vibrant society and a digital knowledge economy. Internationally, the qualification of Saudi teams to compete in the global finals, to be held in Japan, highlights the high caliber of young Saudi minds and reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading center for technological innovation in the region and the world.
Promising student innovations in data protection and smart agriculture
The competition showcased a number of inspiring student innovations that caught the attention of the judging panels and the audience. Among these projects, Yahya Al-Hamoud (a third-year middle school student) presented an innovative project called the “Privacy Cube,” a smart device designed to educate users about how companies handle their personal data in a simple and easy-to-understand way. The device clarifies the type of data collected and its purpose, and includes a color indicator to show how long the data is retained.
In the context of environmental protection and sustainability, student Majid Al-Rashidi and his team presented a distinguished project: a "desertification control robot." The project is a fully integrated agricultural device powered by artificial intelligence, designed to serve the agricultural sector and enhance the efficiency of field operations by measuring soil moisture and water content, analyzing the data, and linking it to a central electronic system. The team aspires to integrate the robot with drones in the future to conduct scanning and self-monitoring of farms and make immediate decisions.
Empowering national talent towards leadership
The Dean of the Technical College in Al-Ahsa, Engineer Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Duhailan, affirmed that hosting these qualifying rounds represents an extension of the college's pioneering role in supporting the technological innovation ecosystem and empowering young national talent. He explained that the qualifying rounds were held concurrently with similar competitions in Jeddah and Riyadh, noting that the winning and qualifying teams from the Al-Ahsa qualifiers will advance to the Riyadh finals, paving the way for the selection of the Kingdom's representatives who will raise the national flag at the international finals in Japan.
