Artificial intelligence in healthcare: 44 scientific research papers in Dammam

In a pioneering step reflecting advancements in medical technology, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University promoted the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcareby showcasing 44 scientific research projects aimed at developing sustainable healthcare solutions. This took place during the "First Scientific Research Day" held in Dammam, marking a significant milestone in the development of academic scientific research in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The journey of digital transformation and medical innovation in the Kingdom

This step comes as an extension of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to adopt modern technologies within the framework of Vision 2030, which places great importance on the health sector and its development. Historically, the past decades have witnessed a gradual development in the use of medical technology, but recent years have seen a qualitative leap with the introduction of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. In this context, the Vice President for Scientific Research and Innovation at the university, Professor Dr. Jehan Al-Humaid, inaugurated the events organized by the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Jubail under the title "Scientific Research Towards Innovation and Sustainability in Healthcare.".

The event, held at the Family and Community Medicine Center in the Academic Medical City, was attended by the city's CEO, Dr. Saad Al-Omari, the college's dean, Dr. Ghada Al-Yousef, and a number of leaders and deans.

Advanced level of research and applied thinking

Artificial intelligence applications dominated the science fair, with 44 projects presented, including 20 graduation projects and 24 specialized research papers in the field of AI. The research spanned specific disciplines, including anesthesia technology, neuroscience technology, and respiratory care, reflecting an advanced level of research and applied thinking. The student projects focused on finding innovative scientific solutions that directly contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services and enhancing the patient experience within medical facilities.

The future impact of artificial intelligence applications in healthcare

The integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare has an impact not only on the local level in Dammam or the Eastern Province, but also serves as a regional and international model. Locally, this research contributes to reducing medical errors and accelerating accurate diagnoses. Regionally, these initiatives enhance the position of Saudi universities as leading platforms for exporting advanced medical knowledge. Dr. Ghada Al-Yousef, Dean of the College, explained that the exhibition represents the culmination of the students' research efforts, noting that the projects have practical and scalable applications to serve the community.

Al-Yousef emphasized that the current edition is distinguished by the inclusion of artificial intelligence outputs, through scientific posters linking modern technologies to support medical decision-making and improve the quality of life for patients.

For her part, Dr. Rana Al-Amri, the college's Vice Dean for Innovation and Scientific Research, explained that the event included panel discussions and workshops addressing the latest trends in applied medical research. Dr. Al-Amri emphasized the importance of integrating health disciplines with digital technologies to enhance innovation opportunities and support digital transformation initiatives in preparing qualified national talent to address contemporary health challenges.

The event concluded with the college administration honoring the participants and supervisors of the research projects in recognition of their excellence, amidst praise for the ongoing support of the university president, Professor Fahd Al-Harbi, and its leadership. The college considered this support a cornerstone for fostering a research and innovation environment and guiding academic output towards achieving the goals of sustainable development in the health sector.
