Agricultural and environmental investment: 5 new opportunities in Riyadh and Mecca

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering the green economy sectors, the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture announced five promising agricultural and environmental investment opportunities through the government's "Furas" platform. These vital projects are located in the Riyadh and Makkah regions and are part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to strengthen effective partnerships with the private sector. This initiative aims to support agricultural and livestock activities and achieve self-sufficiency in red meat, directly contributing to enhancing national food security in line with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The Kingdom's journey towards achieving food security and sustainability
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great emphasis on developing its vital sectors to reduce its reliance on imports. With the launch of Vision 2030, this focus has transformed into a comprehensive national strategy centered on sustainability. The wise leadership recognized the importance of diversifying income sources and securing food supply chains, especially in light of global challenges related to climate change and market volatility. Therefore, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has worked to restructure the agricultural and environmental sectors and has enacted legislation to incentivize local investors. The launch of these projects today is not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather an extension of well-considered plans aimed at transforming vast tracts of land into productive oases and nature reserves that contribute to environmental and economic balance.
Quality projects in Mecca to support vegetation cover
The ministry clarified that the announcement includes three major investment opportunities in the Makkah region. The first opportunity involves establishing a state-of-the-art agricultural nursery in Taif Governorate, covering a total area of 6,698 square meters. This nursery aims to cultivate a variety of vegetables and agricultural crops, thus contributing significantly to achieving local food security. The ministry has set June 2, 2026, as the deadline for applications for this opportunity.
The role of agricultural and environmental investment in developing Taif parks
In addition to the nursery, the importance of agricultural and environmental investment was highlighted by two opportunities in the national parks sector in Taif Governorate. The first opportunity is located in Section 6 of the Saisad National Park, covering a vast area of 200,000 square meters, while the second is in Section 7 of the same park, encompassing an enormous area of 2 million square meters. These major projects aim to preserve and develop vegetation cover, as well as support environmental, tourism, and recreational activities in the region, thus creating sustainable tourist attractions. The deadline for applications for these two opportunities is June 3, 2026.
Enhancing livestock in Al-Zulfi Governorate, Riyadh
In the Riyadh region, the Ministry announced two strategic investment opportunities in Al-Zulfi Governorate, primarily focused on supporting the livestock sector. These projects aim to contribute effectively to achieving self-sufficiency in red meat and meeting the growing demand in the local market. The opportunities include raising, fattening, and producing red meat; plot number (4) covers a total area of 50,000 square meters, while plots (1+2) cover an area of 100,000 square meters. The deadline for receiving investor applications is June 2, 2026.
The economic and environmental dimensions of new projects and their expected impact
These investment projects have dimensions and impacts that extend beyond the local level to the regional and international levels. Locally, these opportunities will contribute to creating hundreds of direct and indirect job opportunities for Saudi youth and stimulate economic activity in governorates such as Taif and Zulfi. They will also play a crucial role in stabilizing food and meat prices by increasing local supply. Regionally, these steps reinforce the Kingdom's position as a leading country in the Middle East that is actively pursuing food security and combating desertification through practical initiatives such as "Green Saudi Arabia." Internationally, the Kingdom's commitment to developing its environmental and agricultural sectors aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting a positive image of the Saudi economy as an attractive environment for green and sustainable investments and underscoring its active role in addressing global climate challenges.
