Major global shipping companies announced they were rerouting their vessels to the Cape of Good Hope route around Africa, avoiding the Suez Canal and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran andthe closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Danish shipping group Maersk said in a statement on Sunday: “Due to the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East following the escalation of military conflict, we have decided to temporarily suspend shipping through the Suez Canal and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.”
