Danish Prime Minister: Greenland faces a crucial moment in the face of Trump's efforts

“There is an ongoing dispute over Greenland, this is a crucial moment, and it goes beyond what is visible,” Frederiksen said during a discussion with leaders of other Danish parties.
She added in a message via Facebook and Instagram: “Denmark A loyal and steadfast ally, we are undertaking a large-scale rearmament process, and are prepared to defend our values wherever necessary, including in the Arctic.”.
She added, “We believe in international law and the right of peoples to self-determination, and therefore we defend the principles of sovereignty, self-determination and territorial integrity.”.
The end of NATO
Denmark, including Greenland, is a member of NATO, and Prime Minister Frederiksen declared earlier this week that a US attack on a NATO member would mean “the end of everything,” particularly NATO and the security system established after the end of World War II.
Trump views Washington’s control of this resource-rich Arctic island as crucial to US national security, given the growing threat posed by Russia and China in the Arctic.

In an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, Trump acknowledged that he might have to choose between preserving NATO unity or taking control of Danish territory.
Greenland residents rejected
Greenlanders have repeatedly affirmed their opposition to joining the United States.
According to a poll published by the Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq in January 2025, 85% of the island's residents expressed their opposition to future US membership, while only 6% supported such a move.
